I think I might have $1000 sunk into all my cars put together, including registration fees!!! '53 Packard- $200, $400 invested '66 Buick- FREE, maybe $200-300 invested '28 Model A sedan- $400 plus some items in trade Okay thats more than a grand, but if you factor in my O/T daily ('70 bug) that I sold a while back for 800 bucks, I'm into it all for around five big ones....
My Aussie built 56 desoto diplomat custom, paid $600 for it 3 years ago. No motor, box or floor but around here pre 65 cars are thin on the ground. And yes its the same body as a 53/4 plymouth but was factory fitted with a desoto grille, which unfortunatly is also missing
I f I had bought all the $1000 cars I've run across in the last five years, I'd have to move. They are out there, especially in these hard economic times. Today's $1000 cars are yesterday's $50.00 cars. Tom
I wish I had two mustangs one to shit on and one to cover it up with. I think that this statement may cause some confusion, I believe that darth meant no newer than '64. Does trading count? I traded a car that i bought about 4 years ago that I bought for 400.00 for this one, complete with title. The only real rust is in the floorboards.
That is cool, so you got the grills and the hood sides? Do you have a side or rear 3/4 shot of it I would like to see how the back lays out.
Is this the FNG troll question of the day or did you mean "pre' 1964 rather than "after" 1964. There are still plenty of "pre" 1964 vehicles out there that could be HAMB friendly rides and I'm not talking 61 Rambler wagons but real buildable cars for under 1k. You usually won't find them on Craigslist though and have to go hunt them down.
I did some horse trading for the one I'm using as my avatar traded a ride on lawn mower $600 a go cart $200 a chipper/shredder I got for free rebuilt the carb $10 drug it home oil down the plug holes changed the oil battery out of my RV bled the brakes drove it up and down my street unfortunatley it needs alot of body work but its a good place to start
My latest ride is a 49 F-1 that I got 6 yrs ago for $500. It came with a title, MII style ft susp & a 9" rear and a dead 305 tossed in back. I have a lot more in it now.
Its is a '38 Ford Standard, its almost like a '37 Deluxe. That got a real art deco thing going on with 'em. Wally while I'm thinkin' about it I believe that it would make a good Bomba, what do you think?
My dad and I have several cars for $1000 or less '62 Imperial '62 Galaxie '51 Plymouth various Corvairs including some vans and this was just scrapped
I picked up a '41 Plymouth business coupe a couple weeks ago. The body is pristine. There was no rust on it besides a little topical rust on the trunk pan. The interior is really nice as well except for the carpet and door panels were removed prior to my purchasing it. All the glass is good as is all of the chrome trim. The front suspension is IFS in these old Plymouths, but it was totally rebuilt with 0 miles on it. The Guy I had purchased it from had also just put disc brakes on the front and converted it to a 5 bolt Chevy pattern. It came with the original rear end still in it, but also came with a 10 bolt rear end with disk brakes out of an '80s firebird. As far as extras, it came with 2 chevy motors. One was a 1967 327 out of an Impala and the other was a late 70s 305. It also came with a brand new Flaming River steering column as well as a brand new EZ wire GM wiring harness. Fresh turbo 350 with a new torque converter. Now I paid $1,200 for all that, but I sold the 305 for $400, so I'm really into it for $800 (the steering column alone is almost worth that much)
Picked up these pre 65 TBirds for less than 1,000 The yellow 58 cost me a trip with my dad's jeep to winch it out of the guys yard. The blue and ? 59 cost me hauling a shed on the car trailer to the guys house in trade. The pink 60 TBird cost me $600. And the 64 TBird cost me $900, don't have a photo of it, but has a rebuilt 390, A/C, straight body and good chrome., but the Landau top and interior is junk.
Thanks bud! I was almost as exited when I found this site as I was when I got the car! I wish I knew of it when I was building my '53 Belair!!
I prefer the under $1000 club. lol. worst comes to worse you can part out and get coin back. These 3 under. Deals are out there. Gotta be willing to get dirty and drop everything and go.
