I bought this: about a year ago for $900. It ran and drove when I bought it, but found a bad crank when I dropped the pan to look for low oil pressure issues.
900 dollars, 283 with 3 spd column. ran great, had a cherry bomb exhaust that sounded amazing with that small block.
I didn't think this thread would fly. $1000 will buy most project cars and many drivers. I have picked up so many free and 50-100 buck cars that were complete and many drove home. MY 54 gmc powered by a strong running 1955 331 Cad with 58 El Dorado tri power. was a driver for $340. I'm buried almost 2 grand now.
I traded a trailer i paid $800 for 10 years ago for a 1958 ford custom 300 that runs good body is in ok shape and is lowered. The best part is the friend I traded the trailer to said i can use the trailer any time I want. After a little work and cleanup I drive it to work every day.
$300 bought a 50 Plymouth wagon. another $325 for a 52 Plymouth wagon and a free 52 Plymouth Belvedere Hard Top. was the start of this 1952 Plymouth Belvedere Hard Top Wagon. when talking cars and money it usually boils down to how much you are able and willing to do yourself. 800 check book is going to cost much more than wheeling and dealing. your call, which is more fun.
Here are 4!!! '60 Ply. wagon $400 , '60 Dodge wagon $400 1 month ago. '57 Stude Transtar $250 1 yr ago. '60 Dodge Matador $400 1 week ago.
Had this car around a month now, bartered about $800 worth of work for it. Probably have about $700 in parts, title, tags, etc, now a decent driver.
I got my SO's grandpa's 46 Binder farm truck for free in August. To everyone in the family it was in the way.
25 Dodge Bros I found for $800 54 Belair with a 305 I give $900 for... almost completely rust free. 46 Dodge Sedan I think I give $900 for
Wow! Where do you guys find all these cars for so little $$? Makes me really ill to constantly be reminded about how much I got screwed on my current project.-entirely my fault, but screwed none the less!
It's called talking to people, watching the ads, having the cash handy and jumping on stuff as soon as you see it, or taking chances on crappy ads no one else bothered with. My $200 Chevy - that ended up selling for $2500 - was from a guy who saw I bought old cars, walked up, and offered it to me.
Its timing, being at the right place at the right time, and having cash in hand. My son bought a 54 Chrysler 2 door hardtop with a 331 Hemi for $800 in the summer of 2012. A week later we were driving it around the block. He has more in it now, and its not perfect, but is going to be a fun cruiser for him this summer. Gene
I've always gotten my best deals networking. I'm working on a 57 Chev Belair 2dr matching number V8 car right now. It'll be more than $1000 but way less than 1/2 of market value. The '46 Chev below was a freebie. Kinda cool old 1-1/2 ton truck was a mobile home mover with a shortbed. 1951 F-1. I traded a $500 1980's Chevy conversion van with no engine/trans for the '51 with no eng/tran, then put the engine from the van in the F-1.
I bought a 1949 chevy 5 window truck for $1000. Complete truck minus a title. I just sold it for $2000. I went out and bought a 1950 chevy coupe for $2700 so i see that i only paid $700for the coupe because i would have still had the truck if i did not sell it
Son snagged this '47 Fordor SuperDeluxe about 5 years ago for $400. Missing a molding, hubcap and jack. Stuck flattie but it's getting a 302 soon.
Here's my F-250 any-body; yeah they made some 3/4 tons, I've only seen one other. Pretty good truck, $150, y-block had a thrown rod. I think the miles are right, 80 thousand. It looks like it had a camper on it, those don't get driven a lot. I may start a "rattle can" thread, I want to put a 6 banger and a 3 speed o.d. in it. Would be my next driver, try to keep costs under a grand, well under and my goal would be to get 21 on the highway! I believe it can be done! And also change everything to 5 lug, the dana 60 rear is junk too!
The day we brought the 1955 First home from Winslow, AZ. $1000 running and driving, tons of extra parts, etc.
My 64 Wildcat, Paid $1000 in 2009. My 64 Lesabre -$300 My 58 Apache- Free ( You get what ya pay for!)
I got the 58 safari for 775 The 65 Catalina for 600 The 66 Chevy longbed for 800 About 150 bucks in the 64 short bed Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
'56 Chevy Bel Air 4 door complete w/265 Powerglide for $800 '48 Pontiac 2 door, straight 8, new interior $1000
