Try this link to the LA Roadster event coverage ...

There are seven photos of the 3W in question on Don Dillards photo album. He always has GREAT event coverage ... :D

I love 32's as much or more than MOST ... and I am fortunate to OWN one ... but the 100 grand deal is plain stupid ... and they are out there for way less ( or I could not afford to own one :D )

I got mine from North Carolina ... not Los Angeles California ... :) so it was less expensive ....

I hope so -- but I hope I can afford to put gas in them at that point also. :) 100K is wild . . . but then again, I remember when Mopar stuff was dirt cheap.

word around the camp fire in these parts is that the Rudy Rodriguez restored race car sold for quite a bit more. The other word around the camp fire is that he is building another masterpiece. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

As far as price, over my 60+ years on this planet, 32 Fords have never been cheap and have always gone up in price. Steadily and slowly. Sure, there has been a jump in the last ten years but like property on the beach, the prices will never stop going up.

Your car is nice, but the one being talked about looks like it's been monkeyed with a lot less over it's life. For instance: I'll bet those real Henry steel armrests you needed a while back were still in place on that car. Likely lots of other bits that would make the car worth a lot more to the right person.

Granted this is all speculation - I haven't seen either car up close and don't have much interest in three windows. But you can't sit there and say 100 grand is stupid not knowing why the guy or girl paid that much for it. Maybe the buyer has been searching for a really nice, very complete real Henry steel three window to restore longer than you have been looking for a decent one to hot rod.

Deuce stuff is Deuce stuff. It's expensive and there's always someone out there willing to give more than you did for it. Sometimes the best you can hope for is to get there first with the asking price. I feel fortunate to own the few bits I do. It's insane - there is a line half a dozen deep waiting in case I want to turn them.

  10. I have a friend thats looking for a driver, 32-34 3 or 5 window coupe, and I have a customer that has a very nice original steel 60's survivor 327 4 speed full fendered sits right un channeled unchopped. good paint, interior no visible rust or any other problems.over all a cherry for under 40 grand. I tell my friend and he looks it over and tells me he's found several glass 32's with independant front suspension and automatics on the net for low 30's. there is no known cure for stupid!

I saw that car at the LA Roadster show. It's a complete, straight, all original V8 stocker in beautiful shape. I heard that someone had paid that much for it. It's a really bitchin' car, but 100 G's is rediculous.

I spent quite a bit of time checking out that 3W at the LA Roadster Show. The only thing of questionable origin on the car was the engine because of the bright blue rattle can paint. The rest of the car was absolutely complete and unmolested.

Remember marketing 101, supply -vs- demand. Right now there are WAY more people that want real 32's, particularly roadsters and 3W's, than there are cars available so, the price is what ever the richest guy wanting one is willing to pay.

  14. A lot of money, yeah. But in twenty years a lot of people reading this thread will be ruing the memory of the 32 3w that they could have had for a measly $100k.

I know a HAMBer in the Chicago area who recently bought a pristine, complete, unchopped, fendered, all original Ford steel 3w '32. A dormant early 70s street rod with original steel door rests, cigar lighter, doors like vaults, Vette engine, etc. I'll only say that he paid much, much less. IMHO, the buy of the century.

if this is the car im thinking of, the guy that was selling it was asking 75k for it. two guys came in at the same time and wanted the car, a bidding war started and the 100k was the end result. crazy what guys with alot of money will do for something they feel they have to have.

IMHO : Nothing wrong with the price ! .... It is probably THE finest deuce that has been up for sale in years ( wordlwide ) !! And , let me ad : ( not that I think so ) , But If ( in hell ) that `3W ends up as a Street rod .... Well , then we & the early Ford V8 club have a huge problem !!
I take for granted that the former owner made sure the new owner was worthy the new ownership ..

    Got that guys # ? I've got a '32 I'd like to sell him.

  18. There's an exceptionally hot place in Hades for anybody who "street rods" that car.

Doesn't seem out of line to me.

Hell, Brookville is getting 1/4 that for repop stuff, and that's without a cowl vent. :) Or fenders, grille, hood, glass... or a chassis.

I'd like to see you try to duplicate it for less. I mean find a real, unrestored, as-mint-as-you-will-ever-see car for less than that. Good luck.

  20. Another IMHO: the car is worth more as it is right now -original paint etc. - than it would be after a $50k restoration.

When is enough going to be enough with these '32 prices. That's just not nearly a $100k car.

Yup. There is a vintage bicycle group that believes the same thing. Along the same lines as antique furniture.

  24. Yes it certainly is, because that's what somebody paid for it.

  25. Damn, I'm glad I'm only wanting a lowly Fordor.

One important thing to remember here - "expensive" is a relative term.

Many of the people who CAN give 100K for a car like that, don't miss that 100K after it's spent.

....and before anyone starts in on "rich SOBs ruining the hobby" let me say that I don't believe they are all SOBs or that they are all ruining the hobby. Hell, look at Bruce Meyer.

IF I could afford to give 100K for that car, I'd have bought it too. (remember, it's all relative) Who could blame a guy for buying that car? It's perfect.

  27. Kev - me and the wife collect midcentury furniture (moderate value stuff), and if you want to see some crazy ass prices you should go to one of those auctions... $80k+ for a 1960 era George Nelson sofa, etc. I've seen instances where somebody lost $50k to $100k because they refinished a rare Stickley piece.

Stupid is as stupid does: Bought a 32 Tudor in 1957 for $175... perfect car no motor or trans. Butt ......it had a full set of chrome inside window frames, still rapped in paper from the chrome shop (worth at least $30 I figger) Had it for 10 years....then pulled out the 327 and Packard trans, and sold it......for $375.....Made a killin? Didn't I??? Didn't I?? Just shoot me!!...OLDBEET

    I still think 100 grand for that 3W is STUPID $$$ ... :)
And there's only a few folks here who could actually own it @ 100 G
... AND ... by the way ... I paid what I consider STUPID money for the one I own.

This one SOLD FOR 82 grand recently ... on eBay ...

I offered 75 grand for this one ... and was turned down ... :(

Mine WAS MISSING the arm rests and the windshield garnish moldings ... I found everything for less than a grand ... so I am in for a fair amount less than half of what the 100 grand coupe reportly sold for ... is the 100 grand coupe TWICE the car ... ?? ... ONLY if you plan on keeping it exactly like it is ... any thing else will dimish the value ... IMHO ...

I want a 32 3W like this ... so the LA coupe would not fit my needs ... especially at 100 Grand. Even if I could afford it . Like Harrison said ... to some a 100 grand is not a lot of $$$ ... but I am not that fortunate ...

OK ....so the guy pissed off A Hundred Grand  for a ...No ...it's the real deal without any screw ball PT Cruiser plastic crap on it...and all there to boot. I cannot fault the guy for working his ass off all his life to be able to purchase and enjoy what he wants when he wants it. As far as if the guy Rods it or even makes it into a coffee table...it's his!!!! Early V-8 club or not. You guys don't jump anyones ass for cutting up an "A" so why start here. More power to him and I say enjoy it...you earned it!
