Yes, no, maybe. Truck prices are going up, but they'll never be close to 32 3W levels. There's still a LOT of 34 cabs floating around, some in quite good condidtion. When you look at how low current truck prices are, you gotta remember that it's still quite a bit more than they used to be, it seems like before Shine built his truck, they were worth about $5. Now, an excellent cab can bring 2-3K, more with a grille shell, still more if it's on a chassis with fenders. Hell, look at 32-34 pickup DOORS, they're impossible to find. They're the most 3W like of the truck parts, price wise. As far as prices go for finished pickup hotrods, I don't think we really know yet...I think it'll take something a seriously well thought out build and with "history" to sell well, for example, if Jimmy ever sold his, I'd expect 75K or better. That's a big part of why I'm dead set on getting to as many shows as possible with mine and getting some coverage out of it, I think that's what it'll take to add value. Not like a 32 3W or roadster, where it'll go for high dollar just because "it's a 32". I can see a few years down the road that trucks might end up in the middle ground pricewise between Model As and 32s, but I could be wrong Ultimatley, I guess, someone else said it best, "It's worth what some rich guy wants to pay for it"
Last winter a Chevy drag car sold for over a million at the Jackson auction, the buyers fee would have been close to 100k makes that 3 w sound like a hell of a deal.
Here is your chance to get in early and cheap. I don't want stupid money...just "dumb money" if you are still stuck in 1974.
True. And in 10 years those 15 repro rolling chassis will sell, with luck, for around $60k. That "stupid" $100k deuce will sell, conservatively, for around $140k.
I heard there was a stash of 32's in Kansas somewhere, guy had like 20 of them.....but he knew what he had, the lot was around 2.2 mil if I remember correctly.....My point is....100K is cheap to someone who wants it....
Hmm..100K isn't a lot of money for some. There's over 400K of my bosses (3 of them ) porsches sitting in the basement at work..and that's pocket change to them. I've met nice rich guys and nice poor guys. No difference..some just have more $$$.
Does it really matter what anyone pays for anything? As long as the buyer and seller are happy, who gives a shit!! As for the 100K 3-Window,the cost is relative to how much money you have. I,m just glad to own the cars I do and drive the shit out of them. What you do with your car and money is your business!!
Yeah--if I had a pile of spare money lying around, I'd translate it into more '32 hardware at once--as far as I'm concerned, money is just a route to deuce stuff and beyond what's necessary to maintain life has no other use. I actually don't give a damn about deuce values. I used to be called irresponsible for turning all assets into deuce parts--no more, now that I can show that everything I've ever bought is doubling in value every time I blink. Now I'm just irresponsible in general. Bruce
I have for a very long time had a dream to come over to America and buy me a steel 3 or 5 winda 32 and bring it back to England but it may never happen if this price thing gets bigger..................still we all have dreams in the Hot Rod world........
The 32's are still out there ... just not as plentiful as in the past. This 5W is now owned by a HAMBer in Texas ... but was owned here in South Carolina. It moved 1000 miles for new ownership. They are around ... Come on over ... there are always some for sale at the Nationals or the LA Roadster Show. The Nationals would most likely be a better place for you ... It's closer to NEW York ... ( shipping ) and the prices seem not to be as California based ...
Yes i look on other sites and even ebay and there seem to be what i would call fair prices 32's and i think your right about california prices.....i might even bump into you when i do my dream purchase...
So is this a good buy at 60K...I have not seen the car but giving it a little thought: http://www.hotrodhotline.com/classifieds/classifieds.php?a=2&b=8920
I know it's not a 5W or a 3W (technically it is) but this went through Ebay twice never got a bid over 18K. Much rarer but that hurts it because there were very few hot rodded. No visual references for the people with money. Maybe it's the repro spring shackles that turns people off.
You could not likely build it for that ... By your avatar ... I see you most likely want the 351 engine ... so it is not a issue for you I like it ... but then ... it a 32, it is Balck and has red wheels ...
You are all talking about truck prices still being lower. While they are certainly not at 3W levels, I did see a seude deuce PU fetch over 50K last year.
The Ford motor is not a problem...the automatic tranny would not be my first choice however...there are pleanty of 32's around in the 50-70K range that are rather nice, just have to look in the right places and be patient.
Skimmer, start looking further afield where there is less demand, my 3w which is a complete original car, older blow over paint, few dents, the interior that is missing I found in the boot came from Belgium, The mint 5w came from SA. Got both for less than half that LA show one. If you have to ship it it doesn't matter where from! If you do find one in your budget don't hesitate or it will be gone, happend to me a few times.
Do not BET MUCH ... Someone put door upholstery in ... and left the arm rests OFF ... I guess Common practice I understand. That's what happened to mine ... I bet. Even the 82 grand eBay Black 32 3W did not have them ... Here' what it needs ... and they are very difficult to find. I know ... I looked for over a year ...
Thinking back almost 30 years to when I bought my 3 window for 3500.00, It had the arm rests, seat, sunvisors, nice dash, moldings, etc. My girlfriend, now wife thought I was crazy when I brought it home. I haven't built it yet but it's been a dam good investment. I'll bet I could maybe even double my money?
You could easily double your money. In fact, I'll buy it off of you for $7000 if you decide to sell it.
sort of off topic, but what is the history of said car that started this thread. i.e. the 100 grand duece? any body know?
mistermuscles: I don't know if it's really worth that much, it' all screwed up with a 2.5 inch chopped top, and a complete 32 Auburn dash. Should I throw in the arm rests and seat?
Mistermuscles: After having to many deuces to count in the past 30 years I have hung on to the 3 window to build as my last car. (providing I don't fall over dead first) I just sold my Vic. Last year I sold a blown flathead roadster and a chopped PU. I still have a Brookville roadster PU in the works, a HR&HP convertible, 2 more Brookville roadsters, a convertible sedan and a BB. I sure hope I live long enough to finish the 3 window. This the result of a lot of horsetrading over the last 30 years. I have to chuckle at the guys moaning about the prices. Not many of us could afford to play Deuces if we hadn't been doing it for a long time. I am aflicted by the disease called Deuce Fever, and am not looking for a cure. I'll keep you in mind although you will have to get in line behind my wife & 2 kids.
I don't see an arm rest= must have been taken off and sold seperately for that $1k people were talking about earlier. 10 years ago I bought 2 34 w's (IMHO, I think that they eyeball much better) One a basket case the other Barn Fresh. It really hadn't been too messed with & I have kept it that way ever since. I don't get a chance to drive it as much as I'd like, but when I do I regret buying it. If someone were to offer me a $100K I'd sell it in a minute. It took a lot to buy them, I am still aways out of money. If I had the opportunity to have someone drive off with a smile on both of our faces while I run down to mortgage company to pay off my house, it would have been well worth the purchase then.Besides,I'd hstil have the basket case to bulid as a version of my 1st 3W which I drove the wheels off of!
