Great video, but I have to wonder how much of that auto traffic is staged. Seem to see the same cars over and over, also note all the u-turns.

Thank you! Great films are worth seeing again, never watched with music before. Did you notice how many times the cars circled the camera, I don't think there were more than 12 different cars total. Great piece of history.

  10. Wow !!

And yes, Billy Gibbons pre La Grange

That was great. With the way they drive and walk in front of cars and wagons, it's a wonder there was anyone still standing when the earthquake hit.

Notice the horseless Carriages were right hand drive? "trucks" of the day were horse drawn wagons. Kids playing chicken. A dude on horseback. Most of those buildings were destroyed in the quake and I wonder how many of these folks perished in the quake?
It's been posted on here before, but I never grow tired of watching it.

  17. I first saw that here some time ago and saved it in my u tube account, and if you look to the right in u tube, your'll find a bunch of em.
this is one post that no one will ever get tired of seeing repeated cause its so damn cool.
Notice all the right hand drive cars?
I think good ol Henry Ford built the first left hand drive car in 08 (correct me if im wrong please) followed by Cadillac a few years later, so next time someone says Kiwis or Aussies or English have their steering on the wrong side, maybe we dont. Ha ha ha.

This is a must see for all those GESTAPO cops that want to break your balls over a taillight bulb, or a crack in a windshield. This is what we have transended from, when things were simple. Maybe it would make them calm down and fight real crime! Just a thought, great ARCHIVE thanks for sharing!!!!!!!

I didn't see any fat people!!!

  27. First, I'm personally offended by the fat people remark because I are one. Second, the only other driving I've seen like that are those drivers in India on that trucking show on Sunday nights. But oh, what a simpler time. Make todays World look like ****.

Wow. Just incredible. It seems to me that videos like this are kind of rare ... because who had the camera, film, and time, to shoot an 11-minute video of the city "just because?"

And just a few days before the earthquake. You can almost imagine that this video is the work of a time traveler ... returning to the city at its height, just before the disaster. He trades his collection of late 1800s silver certificates for a camera, and records a memento to preserve for all of us.

Yeah, I suppose things really haven't changed all that much over the years. If you look very closely at the ladies in long dresses, you can see that many of them are actually men. :D

Extremely high quality film restoration here. Very impressive.
