I need a bell housing that will take an 11" clutch, but I am not concerned with match numbers so it could be from a truck or car.

So, does anyone know what the casting numbers are for these so that I can tell the difference between an 11" and a 10" or 10-1/2" bell housing.

    Thanks,
    Roger

i alway have looked at the starter side of the bellhsgs. the 11' will have a bump/bubble where the start is to allow it to move over for the larger flylwheel. the smaller hsg will be straight in this area.

What's it going in? The muscle car crowd is grabbing up a lot of that sort of thing. You would probably be able to find a Lakewood blowproof for similar $$ on that internet auction site. They're far safer & stronger, and the 11" clutch will fit no problem.

The 3899621 is still quite available (Check Evilbay), which would probably be your ticket, but are a bit more expensive than similarly cast stock bellhousings.

Since you're not concerned with casting numbers, a 460486 from a '70s/'80s pickup will do the job for you. It may have a large diameter center hole, but I've seen adapter rings available to downsize it to Saginaw/Muncie/T10 size, and I still pick up the bell housings for $5-$10 once in a while.

truck and car bellhousings, note the round thing at the bottom that is a quick giveaway that it's a truck part

72 and older trucks use a cast iron bell with mounts for the crossmember under it, they also came in small and large hole varieties.

Does anyone know where the adapter rings can be bought that enable you to use the large diameter center hole pickup bellhousings with the Sags, T10s and Muncies?

Call Jon at 254 694-6600 and tell him that you need the bearing retainer that will mate your trans to a truck bellhousing. His website is kajunjon.com I build 4-speed Muncies and T-10's and I buy all my parts from him.
He and his wife Carolen are top-notch folks. Matter of fact, she knows as much as he does about the transmission business.
Tell him Smokin' Joe from Georgia sent ya. He won't give you much of a discount or no free pens or hats or nuthin'... I just want him to know I'm sendin' biz his way. =)
