In a dilemma finishing wiring my '36 fibergl*** body tail lights with the 9+3 Rebel harness. Normally the 1157 socket grounds thru the metal frame of the light ***embly to the frame, and the two wires are positive. Gl*** bodies don't have the convenience of the lamp ***embly grounding to the gl*** body. Is there a 1157 socket with a three-wire pigtail? Or, has anyone used this adapter with 3 wires? If so, do you remove the old socket and replace it with this one? What would hold the socket in place? Amazon sells it with the description:"Eliminates need to replace socket for non 1157 wired lights. White wire - ground, Black wire - tail lights, Red wire - Stop/turn signals."
I have seen 1157 style sockets with a male spade on them for a solder-less terminal (female spade) to run a ground wire. Not sure where you get them, but they are out there.
Try NAPA first or a place that sells trailer accessories. They should have the sockets with 3 pigtails. The fast-on spade terminal would be cool if you ran across it. I never soldered a wire to the housing before, but worth a shot if all else fails. Bob
It is an easy job.Crimp or solder a ring terminal on both ends of a piece of wire cut to your desired length. Next...I like to drill and then tap a threaded hole in my ch***is for a bolt that will yield a stud on the opposite side. IE: after running the bolt all the way through the ch***is.. This way I do not have to worry with grounding the lug by s****ing or wirebrushing paint off. Add one of your new ring terminals with a nut to your newly created grounding stud. Your parking lamp/ turn signal lamp is held on your gl*** fender with 2 bolts. Put the other end of the newly attached ground wire onto one of the bolts/studs of your lamp ***embly and tighten it up. You are now properly grounded with no need to purchase a 3 wire socket that has to also be attached to your lamp ***embly. The picture below shows my ground wire add to the upper bolt. regards, George
