How wide are they? Tire section width goes hand in hand with section width. if its door slammer then some sort of front runners are in order but the size depends entirely on the wheel
You are looking for a tire in the 4.00 to 5.00 cross section range. If you are running bias ply towl city has some really nice front runners that are good street tires.
Those would be pretty hard to come by, Harley tires is about your best bet and most of the fellas will say that they won't work. They don't really know but they read something about it on the web once. If you want white wall front runners your best bet would be to contact diamond back, you may have to supply the tire to them. The type of car you are thinking about would not have had white walls, show cars had white walls and they were custom made, about like you would be doing with diamond back.
Folks used to run VW sizes on them. Pretty sure that was 5.60 X 15's. And a lot of race cars ran Pirelli radials, something like 155R X 15s. These are about the closest to the Pirelli tread that I could find, and I think they've been discontinued. Maybe just me, but I don't remember many whitewalls on spindlemounts at the track.
The added cost had nothing to do with going fast. I have been around some high dollar racers in my time but for the most part the tracks are supported by weekend warriors and they just didn't have the coin to waste on white walls.
Car tires are designed with flat treads to withstand lateral loads during turns. Motorcycle tires are not. As such, they'll probably understeer severely and quickly wear out in the middle. But they do look cool.
Probably is book v practical. no offense intended. Bike tires were actually pretty common on rods back in the era we call traditional. Actually bike wheels got used on rods clear up into the 70s, but back when I was young it was also a thing that got done on low buck altered and dragsters. I haven't run bike wheels on a car yet and probably won't, I have run 5.00x16 continentals and firestones both on a rod and car tires (Michelin and 6 ply 16" truck tire) on a bike before. The Michelin worked fine, can't say so much for the truck tire it was a rough ridin' ******.
If you're going to street drive this thing, presumably without front brakes, make sure you get those 50 + year old wheels checked. magnesium wheels don't hold up well to time and the elements and old ones can be a time bomb waiting to go off.
Motorcycle tires on a dragster are a whole different world - they are only going straight, no lateral side loads. On top of that a dragster has a hell of a lot less front weight than a Hot Rod. Not to mention that just because something has been done and someone lived to tell about it, well, that doesn't make it a good or smart idea. I can tell you for a fact that motorcycle and car rims are NOT built the same where the rubber meets the steel. There is a difference in profile and even slightly in diameter. I used to own a motorcycle wheel manufacturing company and to meet D.O.T. specs we found out all these nuances ......
Good advice. ^^^^^^ Way better then my bike tire advice. Maybe I should offer a little bit of real advice here, I have done a lot of things in my life due to necessity. Some have worked out well and some have not. I never recommend the stuff that did not go well. A lot of things I learned from the very old timers, like in been doing it since before the war old timers, they didn't have all the scientific studies that we have today. It worked for me and for them probably because we didn't know that it wouldn't. You all need to take my advice if you think you should and if you have read something that makes it iffy for you then you absolutely should not, no reason to live in fear.
more than you wanted know on rim differences, etc. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums...ferences-between-car-motorcycle-rim-tire.html
Thanks guys for all the info it's my first set of spindle mounts.i lucked out they are mint and never had tires mounted on them paid out of the *** for them tho lol
