Hello all. I have a stock 1935 ford 5w coupe that I want to convert to 12 volts. Where do I start? I tried doing a search but I'm doing something wrong as I can not come up with anything. Any help will be appreciated.

  4. A good place to start is to examine if you are doing the conversion for the right reasons. Why are you changing?

    55-62 Ford regulator.
12 volt field winding for the generator
    12 Volt coil
    bulbs,battery etc etc
I get the regulator from Napa and the field windings from C and G in San Diego

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I believe I can have brighter headlights, taillights and brake lights if the car had 12 volts . It would also be nice to have a radio for cruising. More options for a radio or music in general. Of course this will all be hidden. Bluetooth perhaps. I also have a 40 coupe that the previous owner converted to 12 volts and the starter definitely spins faster and helps the engine fire up quicker.

  7. I can get behind the brighter lights. When you get to the headlights be sure to get the "Brite" (their spelling) bulbs from Ron Francis Wire works, https://www.ronfrancis.com. With the proper size cables and a good starter you shouldn't have and problem with the 6 volt system. How about some pictures of your car?

Nice bunch of cars! You are a lucky man. How do you keep a shop so un-cluttered?

I use a gm 1 wire alt. 12v coil some runtz resistors for the gauges and changed the head and tail lights on a 40 2dr and a 47 ford vert. this summer. All's well so far.
