I have a new gauge for my 58 chevy apache that sadly is electric and requires a switched 12volt source but my fuse block is all constant on at the panel. does anyone know of a switched source that is not the coil wire?

usually there is a spot on the ignition switch for gauges, or the coil wire terminal.

  3. all your fuse block is 12 volt constant? even the wipers? radio? turn signals? they are all hot all the time? better look that fuse block over again....there may even be a accessory position

I would go off of the ignition switch if you can't find a switched terminal on your fuse block.

If you go the ign switch route do a proper t-tap splice and for the love of god don't use scotch-locks!

I am not familiar with this panel, yet, but can give a couple of ideas.
    1. Switched power would also be available at ignition resistor input.
    2. A more proper way of solving your problem would be to mount a small fuse panel with the source being IGN pole (or ACC). Any wires which currently run off that switch pole could then be run from this small switched panel and would become fused circuits. You could decide whether to run ignition resistor direct from switch or as one if the new fused circuits. Increase the wire size from switch to new small panel to handle load from all circuits. This gives you a source for future circuits.
Note: IGN switched circuits do not go off when turned to START. Circuits connected to ACC pole go off during START. Keep as much load off of IGN circuit as possible.

I can't remember if the switch in your truck has ACC or not. Let's hear from guys who are familiar with this truck on panel circuits and switch.
