I bought a direct bolt on 12 volt wiper system for my 54 Mainline. The problem is that I still have the old 6 volt wiring system. I already have about $250 in the system and they want another $150 to get the booster. I am sure you people have other options. Help.

Kinda lost me,Your system is still 6 volt right? explain booster which usually means a power brake,or do you mean a 6 volt to 12 volt converter.Other problem is the wiper is made for 12 volt negative ground and if you stayed with the old 6 volts it's positive ground.Best is to convert to 12 volt system as more and more 6 volt is becoming obsolete, already there has been talk of newer cars going to even higher voltage systems to power the additional electronics. You may want to give this a read: http://reviews.ebay.com/6-to-12-Volt-Conversion-1955-Ford?ugid=10000000001571127

At one time there was a dual voltage battery that used 12 volts with a 6 volt accessory tap they may not be in production any longer, check with your local Interstate Battery dealer as they offer specialty batteries nobody else does.

thats true jeff someone did. but it wouldnt stay charged if he only has a 6 volt generator. are you intending on switching to 12v ? if not you should have bought the 6 volt unit from newport. as of right now the only thing i can think of is putting a 12 volt batt. in the trunk? and recharge it after having to run your wipers. i dont know why you wouldnt go ahead and switch you can to 12 volt set up.
