My first car when I turned 16 in '72. My dad was into them for the last half of the 60s and of course I had to have one. We had a handful of them, all big windows until 1981. Sure wish I'd kept one, someday would like to get a slant cab with a '54 grill. My favorite. Hung onto my plaque and jacket, can still fit into the jacket almost 50 years later but it's a TIGHT fit.
Hey Mike, there was a guy in our club that did the same to his '56. Always like that location better than behind the seat. Where's your 56?
Factory location Rich. It’s staying there.....The guys meet in Garden Grove for breakfast on Saturday @ 7:30....I’ll be there in my Woodie....Aunt Yeses on Brookhurst.....
This is my truck, from what I can tell it is a 55 that has had the dash, windshield, roof and doors from a 56. The welded joint is right below the dash and the rear joint is at the factory joint above the rear window. I bought this thing as a basket case and was quite surprised to see it was not quite as it appeared.
56 had shocks that had stud attachment and 53-55 the shocks had eye Attachment. Also, on each side of the peak on the 56 hood near the cowl are two carriage bolts, 53-55 didn’t have these....minor but tell tale ‘56 only identifiers....
The '53-'56 F100 are classy trucks. The '56 with its changes still has the "bones" that lends itself to many different styling directions, securing it as a true canvas to create personal touches in the eyes of Hot Rodders and Customizers alike (what this site thrives on).
Taste is subjective, what one finds distasteful another will find it palatable, we all have our likes and dislikes. I like Deuces and other guys don't, there is a seat for every arse. HRP
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Thanks for posting that '56! HAMB owned and I've seen it in person, got photos buried some where around here. Bob
Old Ford trucks like the 53?-56, were IMHO the best post war looking truck Ford made. I'm betting the OP doesn't like TF GM's as well. No worries, we all have a like/dislike. Heck, I'm sure there are many like me that thought those Pilot House dodge pu's looked awful 40 years ago...dang, good looking trucks now!
I love my 56 F100. But there are 2 things that bother me, the front wheel/axle needs moving forward and the damned hood hinges are a pain. I plan to move the axle on mine but will put up with the hood, ya get used to it. It doesn't worry me if someone else doesn't like it, not theirs is it ?
No, but I think there is a very long list of sylistically challenged vehicles that could be ripped apart before you get to the 52/6 F100s.
If I said I luv the 1956 Ford pick up - I would also say I luv the 55/56 Chevy pick up.......but I'll stick to my 1956 Studebaker 2E with it's factory V/8 and it's 5 speed overdrive.....one of two built on a 1/2 ton chassis.........
It is. The 55’s had a straight a pillar with almost no wraparound. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
