What? You taking your pictures of equipment, painted white, in a blizzard or something??? I'm imagining, from your animated description, that it is a cool setup. I am looking forward to your picture posts - once the snowstorm subsides!!!:D:p

I know, everyone is an unemployed comedian!

I think you'd be better suited for a snowman build thread.........

    Pics are up. Enjoy!

Nobody seemed to find the humor in the last snowman I built. :(

I rather would keep all that weight in a low spot. I also would've used a slightly thicker steel on the bottom, but hey, who am I?
    Here's how I solved my 'too many engines'-situation;
Just break them all down to the bare blocks and stack 'm 2 by 2 under the stairs...Easy! ;)

The best part about this rack is that it can be customized to anyone's needs! Hell, I REALLY liked the casters that bolt onto the motor mounts... that was pretty cool! An engine cart/stand/roll-around without the extra*********! :D

    You know, that's pretty slick!

I wonder if they ship 'em that way...

Still, at least in my garage, when things are taken apart and left that way long-term, something always gets lost. :(

I really like the ingenuity of the stand, but being the chickens--t I am I would add some small corner gussets to reinforce the welds. I saw a similar stand once collapse sideways like a house of cards from the weight, those tubes used to triangulate it WILL bend under enough force...but I still like the idea, alot:D

Looks cool, but I would have gone a bit larger in terms of tubbing. Not knocking it, you done good and it looks like it would be fairly simple to move around the shop. But it does look like an awful lot of weight for the diameter of tubbing used.

I've got a bunch of motors I'd LOVE to stack... Anybody ever used one of those shelves with metal "shopping cart" webbing that "holds 5000 lbs"?

I've seen 'em in a few catalogs... They're chrome, and look like the ones they put cans on in the professional kitchens I've seen on TV (like when some dudes are shootin' at each other in the back of some fancy restaraunt)! LOL! :D

Just make sure you've got more than of those items you take apart.
Why do you think I've got 4 motors apart instead of say, just 1 ? :D

just to bring up a point that most seem to be missing.

Abomination found, and gave credit for, that on sumner's page. sumner has a BUNCH of tech on his page. he also is chronicling the building of his salt racecar. lots of interesting stuff there.

Oh, HELL yeah, he's got good tech! Click the link to his page at the beginning of this thread for more! He's even got a listing of all the parts you need to convert GM alternators to 1-wire ones, with the part numbers, so you can walk into a NAPA or something and walk out with all the parts you need!

    Is he on the HAMB?

    Haha, that's a great pack-rat workaround.

My engine dollys are decidedly lower-tech and made of old bedframes, complete with bed casters :) Think about how many of those old metal frames you see sitting on the curb. It's only a couple cold refreshments and hot beads away from an engine dolly........
