Seems to be my nemesis. . . . . No spark.
Electrical on cars is like magic to me, I just don't get it.
    Rebuilt 8BA
Old motor 59AB all wiring the same, it ran but was tired.
Both sides of ballast resistor have power, Both sides of coil have power
No spark coming out of coil wire to distributor. Tried known good coil and another one off the shelf, what am I missing?

With points open (or not making good contact when closed) you'll have the same voltage on both sides of the coil. If the points are closed and making good contact you'll have very close to ZERO volts on the points side of the coil and somewhere around 6-8 volts on the ballast side of the coil.

your test light should flash on the minus side of the coil when cranking. if it does not the points are dirty or not closing

Points not closing or badly burned. Points incorrectly gapped on the low point on the distributor cam. Adjust them carefully on the highest point.

Might be a good idea to check the coil wire also, even if it’s new.

Old news but just remembered this thread. . . . I put a known good distributor in and it lit right off! Bought new points, condenser, rotor, and cap for spares

so it was probably just dirty or mis adjusted points in the other one

That's certainly taking the long road for what should have been a quick trip.
