    Hey,
I am installing my '49 239 into my 54 Pontiac, I got the motor but it didn't include a starter, the one from my 54 motor will not fit, does anyone know what starter will fit on my 49 motor, hopefully a 12V one.

Also, what generator could I use, or should I put on an alternator.

    thx

  2. Just run a 6V starter for the '49 motor, it will crank faster but unless you use it to move the car or something you won't hurt it.

Those generators are pretty interchangable too, if you want 12V I would try Chevy 6-cylinder 1955-1963, they all mount in pretty well the same place on cars and trucks both. Can probably mount an alternator instead but you'd need to alter or fab brackets -
