up date. thanks to every one who helped. i set the timing and adjusted the carb with a vacum gauge. new line from carb to the dist. [the converter is now locking up]. went to a hotter plug and high octane shell gas. 120 miles at 60 just over 18 going 120 miles back at 70 just under 16. i can live with that. when i put my tear drop behind it it will likley go back to14 or less.
