History 14 years ago today I joined the HAMB

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jan 3, 2017.

  1. I joined the Hamb and at that time it was imperative that you posted a introduction.

The late Deuce Roadster (Randy Nash) encouraged me to join and since I was driving a flathead powered deuce sedan & I had a roadster I would really enjoy the site.

My very first post was in my mind a great introduction but having very limited time on a computer, both daughters were in high school and the computer was something I knew nothing about I stepped off in the deep end of the pool, sink or swim!

As I said previously,I thought my intro was on topic and respectful to all the members.

Well, again being a computer virgin and no typing skills on my resume and the command of the English language & spelling was correct, but everything was not perfect.

My lack of typing skills meant I posted my entire introduction in CAPS LOCK!

My introduction got mixed responses,WHY ARE YOU SCREAMe ING?, Go away! and it went on and on and then GERM chimed in and I was dumbfounded!o_O

I was beginning to think this is not the place for me but with the encouragement from Randy.Boones and Denise I stuck it out.

Long story short,I have met so many of you guys and have friends all over the world,I have enjoyed the last 14 years and look forward to many more. HRP aka Danny

Nice tale... and congrats on your "longevity!" RE the all caps deal, being a long time military guy (teletype) and occasional old-style news reader (Reuters, etc.) I've never figured out what the "big deal" is with using all caps is. It certainly isn't screaming to me. The military used all caps to save wear and tear, let along transmission time, on the teletype equipment by using all caps, all the time, to keep the teletypewriters from constantly having to shift their carrigaes (lots of slam banging) from lower to upper case. Everyone composed, proofed, sent and read in all caps. I guess it was just too hard for the computer weenies, eh?
    Later, Gary

  7. Glad you stuck around HRP

  8. Happy anniversary old timer! I don't remember when I joined(it was before the BIG CHANGE so the date is a bit obscure). It was a bit of a madhouse back then with Germ and Marcus and RickyBopp and all the other characters.BUT IT SURE WAS FUN!!

Let's see, 38,202 posts divided by 14 years equals 2728 posts per year. 2728 divided by 365 equals 7.5 posts a day. Cob was right Danny, you are a HAMBOHOLIC!

  17. Happy 14th to you, HRP.

14 years ago I had never used a computer before!!! I was off in the wilds of Alaska working in the timber industry, and only used a dial phone once a month to call home :D......I never heard of HAMB until 3 years ago, or even considered that anyone was still interested in old timey hot rods!!! I was kidded and jibed about talking about it to work buddies years ago, that I shut up about it. Upon retiring, I was learning the internet & what a computer could actually do, and came across the HAMB site by accident... I was immediately surprised, and it's been life-changing & inspiring.

Thanks to HRP, ...I've laughed and honed my typing skills to your thoughtful, fun, and inspiring posts, and I've come to enjoy logging on, and reading the MANY, MANY posts you had come up with....many leaving me chuckling and grinning.

HRP, ....I appreciate the years you've accumulated, and made me want to continue seeking the HAMB site in the initial learning curb I was trying to hurdle...made me continue coming on, and joining, and becoming a member. I have couple of hot rods now, and time on my hands, and a bit older than I was, and no long distance work situations most of the year....you and a few other members have made the HAMB strong, and although I've only been "logged on" a couple of years, ....I hope to see your posts many years more.....congratulations to a nice and enjoyable personality on the HAMB....the multitude of years simply means a multitude of smiles.........thanks man!!;):D

  29. So what did the Germ say ? :D
