Got a set of 15 x 4 slots for my 55 and it's been a while since I had to buy street tires for skinnies. What are you guys using? I just bought a pair of Hurst Pie Crust "Cheaters" for the rear, the 15 x 10 x 30's. Need something that will work with these and look right.
155-165 VW type tires. Kleber, Vredestein, Coker sells them in Michelin. We scooped up a bunch a few years back in Denver. Any large metro should have a store selling the tires. My problem is I only have ONE 15 early Ford steelie at teh moment! 16s until I find a mate.
If its going on the nose up 55 pictured you might want a taller front tire. Its been a while but I think I ran a 215/75/15 or a 235/75/15 on 4in for a taller front. Its a radial though, depends on the look you want. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/sizes/results.jsp?diameter=15
On my Old '55 ,,with 15 x 4 Ansen Sprints ,,i had Michlen 5;60's ,,26 inches tall ,,150 mph speed rated ,,to clear the fender well hedders ,,,cheap from the tire distributor here at $67 each ,,mounted n balanced
I have 165SR 15 Pirelli Cinteratos on my 57 w/4in American TQs and we ran this same tire or a Continental VW tire back in th 60s . Always looked *****en on the Willys.
Muttley that Comet is pretty cool. I was looking for a look on the 57 and I have Pro-Trac 385 x 60 x 15 on the back Pat
YES 1934 coupe; back in the late '60's on my C/Gas 396 Big Block Chevy powered '54 Ford P/Up ,i ran 5;60 x 15 VW Perrellis ,,
I have used quite a few kinds of skinnies and I like the Moroso DS 2's the best , Mickey Thompson sportsmans are also good . Not sure what kind of driving you are going to be doing.
No close-up shots but I used 5.00X15 B.F. Goodrich Silvertowns from Coker on the front of this Anglia. They are nice looking tires if you don't want a piecrust edge. PieCrust cheaters from Radir on the rear, 15X10, for comparison.
Be wary of mixing up radials and bias ply tires. They WILL follow the road, and catch you by surprise on some occasions. One other item of note, is to check the weight ratings on some of those skinnier tires, like the Klebers. They are under-rated weight-wise for a heavier car. Even when you get into Firestone fronts, when you start dipping below say the 6.40-15's, you need to pay attention to the weight ratings in my opinion if you plan on putting miles on. On our altered wheelbase cars, we usually stick around 6.40-15's and 6.70-15s, the latter being for the full size cars, like a Polara, or such. Dale
I run 165R-15 on 3.5 or 5 inch rims. Easily available, not too expensive, durable. Measure about 25 inches tall. Probably not optimal for autocross.
