Not a thing...so you can ship 'em to me...I'll pay for it...and I'll toss 'em on my "scrap" pile!!! [IMG] [IMG]

  3. thanks for the offer, but i'd hate for you to be burdened by such junk. i think they're priced right, but i want to make sure. also, did halibrand put their logo or any other mark on the back of the wheel like american did?

Check out ROADSTERS.COM there is a section on wheels...OLDBEET

  5. i checked roadsters.com, there wasn't any info specifically about these wheels. i've never priced them, except i see them on e-bay occasionally, but i've never seen what a pair sold for.

I hear that a prime pair is worth $1500 but I've never actually seen a set sell for that price.

    Halibrand made a magnesium 5-spoke?
All I've ever seen are the ribbed style "cookie cutters", kidney beans, and solids.

    Are they spindle mounts?

  8. nope, bolt on.

Do they have Halibrand cast into them anywhere?

  10. no, i'm having to take the guy's word for it that they are halibrands. the only thing cast on the back is a date. some time in 1969 i believe. they also have 1969 date coded tires still mounted on them, don't think i'd drive on them tough.

I've got a pair of bolt-ons that have a serial# 31540 in the back of one spoke, otherwise there are no markings but an American cap fits.

  12. you wouldn't happen to have a picture you could post do you? especially the lip area.

Yeah, check your email. I also found some more markings. It says
    Double
    Screen

    on another spoke

it's either screen or soreen, hard to make out.

  14. yep, that looks like it, they even have that same valve stem still mounted in them. thanks

  15. Sound like Americans. A pal has a set, nice wheels!

Now, the question is...what are they worth?

  18. according to roadster.com articles on vintage wheels, all americans had american racing cast into the back side of the wheel, so i know these are not americans. also they are magnesium and i don't think american made magnesium wheels in '69, but halibrand did.

  19. My boss had a set of American 12 spokes dated 1969, Magnesium. You theory has flaws [IMG]

I bought a pair of 4inch x15 Magnesium 5 spokes here in Australia about 12 months ago, From the same guy I got my duece tudor body off. I paid $1055 Aust they are early Ford bolt pattern and have no markings on them I.E American Racing Equipment, like the other American 5 spokes I have (htese apir are the only one's have that are magnesium though. But from what I know of these 4 inch wheels I am sure they are Americans.

I looked closer at the 4 inch 5 spokes I have, they have markings on the inside of the spokes, the later one's I have, have the markings on the inside of the rim. Anyhow there is 3 spokes with markings on the 4 inch 5 spokes. one has a date 6-2-64, another has the serial number 31540 like Ben D said he has on his and the other has the words DOUBLE SOREEN I have never looked that closely at the back of the 4 inch one's and they are painted black on the back also, but this would have been done by some one over time.
Actually American 5 spokes are my favorite mag wheel

  23. i misread the article on roadsters.com about american racing wheels having american racing cast into the back of the wheel. only the aluminum wheels had this cast into them, so now i'm not sure the wheels i looked at are halibrand. still wondering about the value of the wheels, either way.

  24. A firend had a set with pretty decent older front runners last year for 700.00.
I thought that was awful cheap. Although too rich for my blood.
Usually when I see 'em they are around a grand, if they haven't been into the rail.

I stole mine [IMG], but the last pair I saw at a swap that I passed on was $1200 followed by the comment "Yeah, I know it's stupid money".

What bolt pattern are the ones your looking at?

That looks like the backside of the Kidney Bean Halibrand when not machined for a standard lug mount. Does the other side of the rim have a small lip around the window?

Chicken-rods, YES they do have a lip on the inside as well as say Halibrand Eng. Culver City Cal...and there is a small provision to mount a rotors, but they still remain un-drilled.
