According to thier paperwork last year they didnt run my type of class so maybe they'll wise up this year. We can only hope. Got beat out in the first round, but had a blast and didn't make a fool out of myself. No driver error just good racing. On to Super Chevy for me and 'Barney' (dang guys for naming her that!). Here's my burnout from HR round one. Also my peach 55 was in the show.
just so you know, bill ross built that blue '36, it was an old circle track car with the doors welded shut, & not a straight piece of metal on it, if you knew bill like me, you know the kind of work he can do, like his car "emerald envy" '46 ford with a zepher front end, & a carson top...& would be in awe of great work.......chip
btw, there were 4 shifters up there, i know 'cuz we drank at amstoy's until kevin's wife got kicked out!!!
Man that meet looks mighty fine to me! We've been starving for cool SH*T like that all winter here in the Northeast! That blue coupe is a '35 3 window by the way
Here are a couple of shots of my 64 Nova. The wheels up one was taken last season, the other two are from the March Meet.
Nice 64. I think we were on the same aisle. I remember walking past your car several times. I wanted to run next to that other pink Nova thats in your first picture. That would have been fun and interesting but she prob would have kicked my butt! You going to Super Chevy in Fontana?
great pictures, was out there in my 18 wheeler but couldnt stop will be there next year in my 48 desoto.
Yeah Anna George is a tough competitor. She and her husband are all about the drag racing. Her husband Jody runs the Silver 1960 Morris Minor in D Gas.They also have a Super Stocker and one other drag car for a total of 4 cars that they compete with on a regular basis. She doesn't lose often although Sunday morning was not her day. She cut a slightly better light than me but my car performed a little better on the number. Tough loss for her, great win for me to go to the third round. I don't think I will be doing much travelling this year as Famoso's schedule is very full with plenty of races for me to compete in and I still haven't wrangled up any sponsorship money this year so I have to keep my expenses as low as possible. Home track is where it's at!
Anyone who says they are glad they didn't go because of the show and shine at the end of the track needs to stay away from the drag races and just go to a regular car show. There was way too much to see and take in. Vintage rails on display, a half a mile of race cars stuffed in the pits, a few hundred show cars, and all the beer you could drink.... Oh yeah, there was RACING going on, since it IS a drag racing event. We were down by the scales in the Hot Rod class... our camp was running our '62 Chevy Nova. I personally, had a blast. Shag, it was good to see ya!
This weekend was solid 11.50's. Mostly .55-.58;. Weekend before went all .40's! Big jump from last years .80's. One day I'll be in the 10's.
Hey Hemi, I thought I recognized that Nova. I used to sell racing fuel to Darren before I moved to the coast. How well did you guys do last weekend? -Troy
Go here to view 800 + pics of the Hotrod class at this years March Meet. http://public.fotki.com/1320Sherlock/goodguys-8th-fuel--/march-meet-2007-/2007-march-meet-hot-rod-/ These are all burnout and launch pics. Some great shots of vintage iron yanking the wheels!
Shag, ya need larger letters on that car. We couldn't see them from the tower. We knew who you were, just couldn't read what it said on the side of your car.
Yeah I know. On the computer the stickers looked great, after putting them on the car I could see that you can't read them from more than 10 feet away! Another thing on the to do list. Did anyone notice the skinny Keystone wheels on the front? I'm waiting for the backs which are being made at Stockton wheels.
Not too good actually... car ran great in test and tune, usually 10.90's... he swapped carbs and ran a few 10.80's... 10.84 best so far. At the March Meet, he ran a 10.96, red lit, and then had electrical gremlins on the line three times, and was blowing the ignition circuit fuse during launch. Not good. We attempted to chase it down and fixed a few things we thought might have been the culprit, but haven't found the cause. He's going to try and sort it out this week. But we had a blast, and ate and drank like kings.
I'm sure I did notice the wheels, but other then knowing it was you out there and what you were driving, the race is pretty much a blurr. Except for the round sheets we would get, I was forgetting who won and lost each round. Thre were two guys that would come to the tower and talk with us, so when this happened we knew they had lost the previous round. We just hoped they would keep winning so they would stay outta the tower...lol
Kurt, ya didn't hear us? darn, we used some of our best stuff at that race. Bloopers from the tower go on sale next week....... LOL
