That was cool, thanks. I had a little knee jerk reaction at 2:38. My parents went to Germany to visit my cousin and her husband, they were career Army and this was before the wall fell, and dad had so much fun on the Autobahn with their BMW.
I like going fast too, but the autobahn situation in this video was much to crowded for my taste. People just don´t see you coming when you are traveling at 300km per hour or more. Myself , I´m feeling pretty comfortable at speeds up to 250km/h and having no one around and in sight , but above that every additional 10 km/h feels to me like the speed has doubled. A friend drives a late model AMG E 63 Biturbo, I drove it when it had the factory 630 hp, but he had Brabus change the turbos and upgrade the software to 960 hp. He tried driving it with no top speed limiter and almost creamed himself at 346 km/h, now it´s limited to 306km/h. Going fast is one thing, going fast so quickly is freakin scary, at least to me. Supercars ar not for me, I can admire them, but I have no need at all to own one. I´m happy cruising my 55 Chevy 235/ 3speed... going fast is just to stressful for me now.
Spot on. Years ago when we used to do this sort of thing we'd go to your country during the summer, 04:30 Sunday morning and even at that time of day you had to keep your wits about you. Nowadays I would not dare, road condition is also not what it used to be.
Hello, As twenty somethings, we saved up barely enough to get us to Europe for a planned vacation. One of my wife’s goals was to go to Europe in one way or another. So, as we were in our last years of college, she mentioned, upon graduation, we would get married and start saving immediately for our Summer road trip in Europe. It took us two years of saving everything we could get our hands on and she was a good planner/budget handling person. One of the best things we did was to stop going out for dinner and the vast lunches that were too easy to stop and get a bite to eat, before we headed to the beach. So, as we saved, we also planned. We the main spots to visit and planned a tour of sorts to get to those places. London, Paris, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Greece were the planned visiting places. How many we would visit would be based on how long our money lasted. Jnaki Of course, during the Germany visit, we had never been to a beer drinking place before. Small bars in So Cal were the affordable places. But a huge place like the Hofbräuhaus was an eye opening experience. Luckily, our sleeping place was nearby and we did not have to drive. Ha! But, while in Germany, yes, we did the world famous Autobahn tour. Noting our proper lane for slow touring cars, trucks, and busses. The fast lane was a little scary as the stories we heard about the rules and fast cars that usually were on that side of the road. The whole scene was predicated with a warning of “use your rear view mirror” and judge how far back the small car looks in the fast lane. Then, let it catch up and go past. Now, one is accustomed to how far back a fast + super fast, sporty car is and how small they look. As we were enjoying the scenery and various cars coming by at a fast rate of speed, we were amazed that such a road exists in any country. Sure, Highway 395 in the barren desert areas of California was open enough to go fast. But, this German road was scary. no photos, as we were scared to go so fast with other cars and those faster sporty types… Note: The fastest car was a tie between a red Ferrari and a low slung Porsche with spoilers. That one reminded us of the sporty car races we had seen back in the USA. Attempting the 70-80 mph speed of the cars in our own “slow” lane was ok. It gave us a standard position to judge the distances and how fast they zipped past us. The Porsche must have had open exhausts as the 6 cylinder motor screamed as it flew past us. The Ferrari looked stock, but also had a loud sound as it whipped past. A great experience, for sure….YRMV After a harrowing fast road trip, we opted for a leisurely "Float" on the Rhine River. We saw, our next home perched high on a hill overlooking the river, if we would stay in Europe. ha! Did the long European road trip satisfy my wife’s curiosity about a foreign country or different scenery than our local So Cal coastal beach scene? Yes, it was nice, but there is no place like So Cal coastal beaches for fun, surf and atmosphere of a low key lifestyle. Now, it was time to save to go to Hawaii as soon as possible… more penny pinching techniques… Yikes!
