For Sale: 1910 Buick "the large one" Model 16. Of course, these have the large 318 cubic engine and is on the 116" wheelbase. This is the largest, four cylinder Buick built and this chassis was often used for race cars.

Here is some information on the car:

    Engine Number: 9864 (original)
Frame Tag Number (has original brass oval tag): 9853
Selden Patent Number (has original Selden Patent plate): 310288

Ownership History: Glenn Brown, Hutchinson, Kansas bought the car in the 1930s from the original owner and kept the car until his estate sale in 1990. E. J. Cole "Collection" in Houston, Texas owned the car from 1990-December 2020. The car has been in storage for the last 40+ years. Included are photos of the car from the early 1930s to 1960s.

-This appears to be a very low mileage car. I do not think any of the major components have ever been separated from the chassis.

The metal seat assembly, wood seat frame, the cowling, floorboards, body sills, firewall, etc are original and in good solid condition with part numbers still visible. The area behind the seat have been replaced around the 1915s-ealry 1920s before Glenn Brown purchased the car in the 1930s. The Selden Patent plate on the seat frame does not appear to have ever been removed.

-The car has two gas tanks-the original gas tank under the seat and the exterior "Buick" script big round gas tank behind the seat. They are both plumbed to the carburetor with "on-off" valve.

-The body sheet metal-fenders, hood, cowl, seat, splash aprons, etc are very nice and clean and are correct and authentic to the car.

-The chassis and all its components are heavily caked with heavy grease or oil. When I scrape any of this, the metal underneath either has traces of original paint. There does not appear to be any rust or pitting on the chassis pieces including the frame or axles.

-Inside the rear trunk was some neat 1960s HCCA literature from the Hutchinson Regional group, Glenn Brown's leather driving gloves, a few 1960s meet plagues, HCCA letters address. tools, etc to Glenn.

-The original engine was updated in the teens or early twenties. This includes the water pump was taken off the side of the block and placed inline with the magneto-a better solution than the typical block mounting. This was modified in 1911 Buick as well. Also, the rocker arms have grease cups. And the carburetor was updated to a Rayfield carburetor and a Stewart vacuum pump. The fan assembly is missing. Everything on the chassis is correct. And it has never been removed.

Basically, I think it is a good, old car with lots of potential. I would get the car mechanically solid and leave the rest in its condition. The paint was likely brush painted by the 2nd owner, Glenn Brown.

If you want a correct, honest, a real early hotrod, this is your car. If you want a REAL TROG car or an authentic race car for vintage racing, take off the fenders and go race-as they did in the early years of automobiles.

    The asking price is 45,000.00.

Email directly at motoringicons@hotmail.com or call 734-730-4274. We can discuss it, tell you all about it, send about 80 detailed photos. Of course, you are welcomed to come and see this car..

    Thank you.
