Beautiful ch***is, gota love those bare bones. Keep us in the loop as things progress.

As to the posts on driving and handling: I noticed the front and center crossmembers have been welded to the rails, which is a good thing. Rivets loosen over time and lets face it this ch***is has been around for a long time. My home built 31 Tudor has a stock frame that I boxed, added a 32 front crossmember and made relatively simple non "K-member" center crossmember for. I learned very quickly that the p***enger door liked to pop open under accelaration, I added deadbolt latches to both doors. That being said my Model A has P285-70 rear radial rubber and about 375 horses.

Driving and handling are sort of relative terms that are tempered by personnal feel. I mean afterall cball is building a buggy sprung vehicle without a lot of HP running on skinny 4 ply tires. I am thinking you will be fine.

It should drive and handle like a traditional old school Hot Rod. Which is a big part of the coolness factor.

The tab mount off the stock crossmember raised a flag to me too, Tex, but I'm not sure if that's because it looks like a problem or it's just different. I'll be real curious to hear how this one is when it goes on the road. I can say that I drove my Model A with the banger a bit before I rodded it, and the 32 K member added a huge amount of strength to the frame. That deep cross section and those forward legs really tightened things up. I bet the car would be a real handful at 70 mph without it.

There is no question that the stock Model A frame is weak, but I can't say for sure how much of a problem that would be in an AV8 without a stronger crossmember. I suspect the loads on the frame at highway speeds are more of a concern than the higher power of the flathead engine. I don't have any engine cowling on my car and can actually see the forward left frame rail twist when I make a turn from the load of the steering box. I had originally mounted the master cylinder on the stock crossmember and was amazed at how weak it was even with a cross brace to tie to the vertical sides together. It flexed so much I had to run tension rods to the 32 K member so I wouldn't loose all my pedal travel. I eventually gave up and mounted the MC to the 32 K member like everyone else does. I would definitely do a few panic stops on that brake pedal to see how much motion you are getting at the mount.

I can't tell from the pix, but did you add any doubles or box the stock crossmember? It wouldn't be that big of a deal to add a forward angled struts like a 32 K member to be on the safe side.

Agree. Those mounts can't take any for-aft load. Unless the axis of the shocks happen to be exactly in line with the mounts, they are going to bend. Can you add second mounts just like the ones you have on the forward side of the shocks (see pix)?

    Looking good.
That is quite an interesting setup on the rear spring and rear crossmember.
How about a little info on that and some close up shots of it.

Awesome Car! - I love the Stance - love the wheels/tires - and love the old flatty with lakes headers! I say dove grey would be a great color for it...

I like what you did for the trans. mount off of the stock center x-member. Could you post a few more pictures of that set-up? Thanks.

    Great job!

  18. I was wondering if anybody could build a Tudor without channeling or zeeing the frame anymore.
    Keep up the good work!
Are you planning on putting the wood around the rear gl***? Need ideas for my 29 Tudor.

yes they are and they ride great! I am glad I spent the coin on them and they look decent also. The roads around my area are awful and new tires help a little.

Back at it, I almost forgot about my Tudor because of customer work. Picked up some new seats and still needs some mechanical work for its first drive. Then comes the body work. Pics aren't great just iphone pics, but I wanted to post them, share, and get inspired.
