Do you mean between the rockers and body or? I used seam sealer on the gap between the rockers and the body before paint, nothing between the interior wood. I have too much running around this weekend to accomplish anything. So it goes I guess. Have a great weekend guys!

Ok I have a question for all you guys. I am trying to square up my body a 1930 tudor sedan and am in need of a measurement. I need the distance between the pillars that are behind the door from side to side and the distance across the door from front to back. If any one can understand this and has them I would be greatfull.

Hey johnalias. I can't help you with your question cause mine is a 28. And not sure if it would be the same. But i'm sure someone with a 30 will jump on here and help you out...ghost

On another note I finally dragged my butt out to the shop. And decided to cut all the floor board panels for the front of the delivery. And cut the neccesary holes for the collumn, brake pedal, and master cylinder. Not as fun as some stuff. But needed to get done none the less. HAVE A LOOK...ghost

Yeah I had some 16ga left over just enough for the front floor board area. and thought I might as well use it up there. It took two 30 by 42 sheets to complete it with a little left over. In the back of the car I'll lighten it up. (GOOD EYE)...ghost

I've got the original column still to use. Had a friend make all new brass bushings for the internals, so it should be good to go. Then I have a box of brand new borgeson joints that I got a deal on at a swap meet. And just ordered a speedway vega box combo, with the mounting, and pitman arm, should be here monday or tuesday. Man I love gift certificates. Motor and trans is in, just need drive shaft made. And when money comes in order a lokar shifter. hope... hope...I guess just continue to mock it up and then blow it apart. Over and Over again. I GUESS THAT'S WHY WE PLAY THE GAME...ghost

    John,
From side to side at the floor the distance is 46.250
    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" Door latch is 50.250
    """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""top of door is 50.875
2 door coach, door opening at bottom is 33.250
Door opening at middle hinge to rear post at the door latch area is the same
I would suggest you set the cowl in place and hang the doors on the cowl get the doors to fit the cowl vertically perfect then align everything else to that making sure the distance from the edge of the cowl to any factory bolt hole in the top of the frame is the same diagonally this will set up the rear body on the money, it takes a long time to get these things right with wood anyway, good luck!My car is a 31.

I made these for my Nash, about the same principal, except the chivvy panel only spans the space under the door. Had the sheetmetal shop cut and bend, then I used hand crimper pliers on the flanges to make the curve.

Double row of one inch square under top flange. It's like a hidden running board.

Hey mink ...As far as location of the column. You really need a seat in your car so you can get the correct feel of the steering wheel while your seated. And so you can be sure it wil not interfere with engine location the engine should be mocked up also with exhaust. All these will come into play when installing the column. Here is a few pictures of my floor board with the holes for column and brake pedal. The brake pedal will have a smaller boot for a cover later on Hope this helps and keep building . P.S. I will be using my original 28 column and wheel...ghost

  15. Hey guys, keep your fingers crossed! I have a line on another early Chevrolet chassis (the last one did NOT pan out)... will let you know how things go.

The project I'm working on is a T speedster. I've been slowly collecting T parts, but have been strongly considering the early Chevrolet chassis instead (my favorite early car is a '29 Chevrolet roadster). Hopefully, this deal will work out.

Well I bought my running board shields through howells. at www.fordor.com They sure look good in the pictures. And the price new was just a little over $200.00 with shipping. I have the originals but the top of each one is rusted out pretty bad. If any one wants a project shoot me a p.m.. I also took all 4 fenders, running boards, complete hood, front frame shield, and the dash. Over to the media blaster. This guy is really good and gentle with your parts even with over 80 years of rust. They come back smooth and new looking. I'll shoot ya some pictures when they come back. When these parts are finished if I haven't shot all my hot rod budget I'm going to send the body out for blasting. Finally back at it... Wish me luck...ghost

ghost I'm using a slim straight 6 and my column is not going to be a straight shot to the steering box. I am using a series of u-joints. What i am looking for is something in which will help me decide in which direction or "vector" the remain foot or so out from the dash with be point to.I have a bench seat that i am curently cutting down to fit.

I was planing on using this a picture i have which dimension where the seat seats and the colum sits in a ford four door

If I am understanding correctly. You are lookin for column or steering wheel placement inside the car. If this is the case, sitting in the car with your hand on the wheel at 10 and 2. All you need is to find your comfort zone then stabalize the column and get out and look through the windshield for straightness It might involve a column drop. But the hole through the floor board could be measured out later. If your flooring is not in at this time. If I am not correct in understanding try me again. the placement of the column through the firewall dont worry so much about looks. As much as steering connection to the box with no binds in your universal joints would be more eye pleasing and safer...ghost

Mink I got this one out of a chrysler mini van. It was the middle seat and is only 39 1/2 wide so far all I had to do was lower the bottom supports. And take the nasty headrests off. Beings your car is a 4 door, you will not need to fold it forward. Like my delivery with it's back door, I don't need it to fold either. $24.00 at a pull and save junk yard. just a thought...ghost

Ya i think i have the same seat . lets see. Mine came out of a late 90's cyrstler it measure 41 inchs to me. i put it in, nice and comfy but feels to small. I pulled this from the center of the van the rear seat measured 47 inchs..

I need to take better shots . heres a nother seat option i shortened this seat to 46"

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323678
anything larger that 47 " wont fit.

Thanks that means quite alot coming from you

Your seat is the same as mine , from the picture i put up in my previous post does mine look like a good size?? Wondering how the distance of the yellow line and the red one compare to mine. between the pillars at those guessemated heights.

How much did you shorten the legs on that seat??

Also I am thinking of using this other picture in order to get an idea of where to orient the seat, sound okay?

I think the seats are really close. I bought two seats cause I wasn't sure which one would fit. The one I will be using is 39 1/2 side to side in the seat area. The other one was 41 1/2 And would rub on my future door panels. The seat that I'm using at the top measurement. I have 3 inches on each side to the body. At the area where the upper and lower seat join together. I have 2 inches on each side. Then at the front of the seat I have only one inch on each side. I think your body is probably a little wider than mine so the seat you have should work. The elevation of my seat from the floor to the bottom of the seat up front is 3 inches. At the back is 2 1/2 inches. My delivery is chopped 2 1/2 inches. So your seat could set a little higher...ghost

Ok those seats look good for the front but what about the back, that is where I'm at now. I need a seat I can use, I was going to make a wood/foam seat but I'd like to take a short cut on this project> Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The only shortcut I can think of. Is also the chrysler mini van seats. Just measure the area at the back of the car. And head out to one of the pull the part junk yards with a tape measure. Most likely you will have to cut all the bottom structure off. But it wont hurt the seat stabillity at all. And they are cheap to reupholster if you need to. And the best thing is most come out without any tools...ghost

i'm off to the pick and pull this weekend thanks Mink and Ghost for the info.I'm ordering my front window parts today for the roll up and gaskets, the total is going to be around $500, wow, that is a bunch, but ? I'm been trying to come up with some sort of windshield wiper system for this thing, if I wasn't using a roll up front windshield it would be fairly straight forward, I think a Chevy Engineer said the same thing too in 1931. I've never seen a original vacuum unit, does anyone have a junk one that I can borrow to see if I could duplicate a newer version of an old one? Also I saved some of the old wood from my old heap if anyone would want for a pattern I have the main cowl wood piece from left to right that the dash screws to, it's not usable but you could make a part from it, if anyone wants it I can ship it to you if you pay the shipping. I added the latest picture of my old heap. Yes I feel like an expecting father getting ready for the birth of a new child, named 31 Chevy.I'm looking forward to driving it, and worrying about all the things I have forgotten to do.Thanks Old Chevy Fans!
