Mink I found most of it in a field at a storage lot for semi trailors. Was talking to the guy about his model a sedan and looking at pics. And all of a sudden he says hes got an old chevy sedan out back but did'nt know the year. So I took a look, all I saw was the frame, fenders, running boards, and the back half of the car. Said the rest was in a storage trailor. looked to be in pretty good condition. Near as I could tell the front wheel bearing was worn out. So the car was parked, and then someone took it all apart and put it in storage. All except the big pieces. Waited about three months cause I did'nt need it, then decided to build another car after we got my son-n-laws car done. Offered him $400.00 and as they say the rest is history...ghost P.S. CHECK OUT POST 239 ABOUT YOUR WINDSHIELD THANKS... GHOST

Ya its a 32 chevy. Did you back use any thing besides the glue to keep it in like wood . Im missing all my wood. Im thinking of cutting some plexy glass and test fitting it in there to see what im up against. Any chance you have dimensions of the windshield you used?

    The board is 3/4".

    Hey Ghost;
Just a thought, and you might not go for it, but bow Bow Tie sells repro fender wells. Problem is they won't take very wide tire, of course they could be split and widened...........

I think that 'delivery would look good with.

Hey guys, there's a riser mechanism on ebay. Problem is it'll go for a hundred or so............

Naw just glued it in. it is some pretty tuff stuff. The dash when mounted will have a gap about 1/2 inch between the dash, and window glass. And I just filled it with upholstery material. Like I said it never leaked or came loose. But if you ever broke the windshield it would have to be cut out and the glue cleaned up to install the new one. Even on my 32 I had to replace all the wood. The car like my 28 came in about 12 body panels and a frame no fenders. A real field car the kind I like. Your lucky to have yours so complete the 32 fenders are real expensive to replace one year only on them. GOOD LUCK...ghost

Been following this thread for a while.Really neat stuff, don't mean to high-jack, but I need some info from you chevy guys. Starting on an old chevy roadster that was sold to me as a '31. I think this started life as a coupe and had a glass kit added to make it a roadster. The top of the cowl and the rear section are fiberglass. Cowl was cut half way up and the rear fenderwell, decklid, doors, fenders, running boards are metal. The bottom is metal and top half fiberglass.

Radiator shell looks to be '32, but unsure of the rest. Can anyone help me id this thing as far as year model? Thanks, Joe.

Hey joe near as I can tell your car started life as a 31 5 window. The reason I say this is the doors are not long enough to be a 3 window, and the fenders are wrong to be a 32. 31 and 32 share the same body lines except the roof area above the windshield which you dont have if it were mine I would continue with the roadster theme and drive the hell out of it. OH AND RATCOACH SAID AS LONG AS WE TALK CHEVY WE CAN USE HIS THREAD AS A CHEVY BOARD SO LET'S KEEP IT GOING...ghost

hey guys, quick question about the grill in joe's pictures. i bought one at a swap meet that looks just like it to use on my 28 sedan. i was told it was a 32 truck grill. are the car and truck grills the same? i like and plan to use it either way but am still wondering. thanks, mike

What ghost said...., your fenders are '30 or '31. I think those cowl lights were unique to '31 also but need to see a side view. The wheels apper to be 19" , 32 were 18", of course those can be switched.

That horn is '31, and worth it's weight in gold as is.

    '32 had a double-bar headlight bar.

The rad-shell looks tapered in the pic, like a '32. (see 32 picture below)

The carb setup is '32, (downdraft), but the intake/exhaust off a '32 can be bolted on earlier.

Headlight buckets appear to be '29-'30, definately not '32. '31 headlight buckets were chrome, but smaller than '32.

Can't tell, but if the doors have roll-up windows, it's likely to be a cabrolet, no windows in doors would be a roadster. Can we see a picture of the windshield support from the dash side?

Also, if you want to know, the serial of the motor is stamped on a flat by the distributor boss, get that # and I can tell you the year of the motor anyhow.

If you look closely at the middle/front of the fender, there's a little inverted V embellishment on '32 fender.

Sometimes '28-'32, the trucks lagged a year, and many had painted shell instead of chromed.

Cars, up through '31 there was no grille, just radiator core showing with shell.

There were aftermarket 'gravel shields', that hung on in front of the rad, behind the headlight bar.

I agree that it's for a truck. I don't know this, but they were probably made the same, with the chrome being the only diff.

I really wanted a chevy roadster to re-do mine that I had in high school in '66. Sold it when I got out of Army basic for beer money. see my thread "trying to get chevy body from NY to TX"

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322031

Anyway it had an olds with 3 dueces, 3 spd toploader, full fendered, etc

Picked up this engine in Ohio a couple of years back

picked up this red roadster out of Oklahoma and someone had really screwed it up. Don't think they ever drove it. Front springs cut in half and welded to the axle--as is the frame??? I have another complete '31 front suspension I'll be using once I clean up the frame.

Bought this '32 coupe body in NY for parts or building, need to haul it down to TX---Any help????

    Hey Nash, I don't think the engine is a '32. I think it's newer, here the # off the block: I002063 F54

    Here's a view of my rad shell, I think it's '32

  18. Joe TX. you original RULES! wow, hopefully you get it back together and redo your old car. Your red one looks like a cut coupe, from looking at how the windshield mounts. Your grill shell is 31-32 chevy truck. cars had the brass one's and trucks were steel....i have a 32 truck shell but the emblem is different than yours....never seen yours. here's a bad pic of it, but it's the porcelen style...

Good luck with your build. Keep us posted!

joe tx pretty sure it is a 32 truck grille. Stamped bow tie mostly on trucks. Porcelin on cars. Good luck on getting the coupe body home, looks more complete than my 32 was when I got it. Or should I say more put together. Seems like the chevys all fell apart BUT IT SAVED THEM FROM THE STOCK CAR TRACKS FOR THE MOST PART...ghost

I've been collecting parts and have had the idea of re-doing my car for years and years. I've finally started. I also have another '31 cowl, don't know if it's truck or car, but it's in good shape and the firewall is beautiful, and I'm possible going to use that cowl and rework it to look like a roadster cowl, and use the rear fiberglass clip. The rear clip looks alright, but it wasn't bonded to the coupe metal parts. I intend to do this if I decide to to the roadster. If not, then I may try to build the '32 coupe.

I have doors, cowl/firewall/original dash, hood, grill, front fenders, running boards, rear fenders, working rumble seat, gas tank cover, front suspension, frame, 303 olds/'50 valve covers, edelbrock/3 97 strombergs, coupled to 3 sp open drive ford top loader, new set of Vintique wheels and Coker wide white wall tires-----Guess I have enough to start!!!!

Need stock splash aprons to fit, if someone has a pair they want to part with.

Have a question, does the Job # 31 558 or the Body # 0 5069 on the firewall tell me what this car was?

After I started following this tread, I got motivated and I've stripped the car down some. Thanks for all your help. Joe.

Nah I gave the pattern to the guy that bought the car. But I made the pattern out of 1/4 masonite, was easier to cut than plexi. Plus I could sand the edges smooth with my grinder to fine tune the fit. And plexi is so messy...ghost

Don't want to upset anyone by going off topic, here's one picture. Have a few projects for sale, PM me with an email address and I can send a picture file with 100 pictures of stuff at the shop. Joe.

Thanks Nash, This car has been modified greatly, like cowl cut in half, top of doors cut off, cut about rear wheel well and across the rear pan between the trunk and lid. Then a fiberglass kit was install but just "popped" on. Not bonded or tied together in any way. It's awful!

Do you have the info on the job # for a PU and 1 1/2 ton truck? So I can check the other cowl at the shop tomorrow. Thanks, Joe.
