I have acquired a 1929? Essex coupe that i want to build, but not going to start until I have a title...........Can anyone help? I'm not interested in fighting with my local DMV to get a 2021 title.
That is a Nebraska specific question... Advice from any other state is speculation. First question: Is there any sort of body tag with some sort of serial number?
Do they have title services in your state? If you have a frame with a frame/VIN number they might be able to help.If no chassis you will end up going new construction. We have all heard of guys finding a old title, and getting it reactived, but its illegal to do if it doesnt match a existing frame.
Youll want to talk to your local DMV/Sherriff. Lincoln county sheriff wont even do a VIN inspection unless its a complete "running" vehicle. AKA, they wont let you get a title on that body, it has to at least be a roller and look the part of a car. I had a lot of issues on that aspect, to the point of if a car doesnt have a title, I buy it at scrap metal price or walk
Similar problem with another first timer on here about a week ago. Same answer, ask the DMV in your state and county. Pat
Hell of a lot less hassle to go though the right process with your state than have your car impounded when it is done because you have a bogus title. I don't have an issue with a guy buying a hulk with a similar body with a clear title in a situation like this but you don't want to be that guy who got caught using a bogus title. Who gives a rats ass if it is an "assmembled vehicle" anyhow. That has little to do with the resale value of a hot rod and it is still an old Essex. The only issue is providing proof that you legally own the major parts. That means either bills of sale or receipts for the parts or the title to the donor rig or a copy of the title with the paperwork from the scrap yard where you hauled the hulk. Paper trail and proof you own the parts is an absolute on these deals and if you are afraid for your significant other to find out what you spent you can't afford it anyhow. Nebraska does suck for building old vehicles that don't have a title to start with. Beyond that, you may not want to discuss on a public message board. (Besides discussing the laws and requirements of the Nebraska DMV.)
