    Greetings,

My 1929 Model A rat rod has no front brakes at all -- nothing. (The rear is a '78 Trans Am with Posi and has operating drum brakes.) The front has the stock '29 spindles. I'd like to install discs, but I've not found anyone who sells direct conversion kits.

I've been told to get a pair of 1937 - 1946 spindles and they would fit on my '29 axle with some shimming. Then to buy a disc brake conversion kit for it for the '37-'46.

I don't want to install a Mustang II on the front --- budget and appearance issues. The '29 axle ***embly looks so good exposed, so I want to keep it. But I need brakes on the front.

Anyone agree? Anyone disagree? Any better ideas?

    Thanks for your help.

    Bill

  2. i agree with the `37 to `48 spindles on your A axle, then use `40 to `48 ford hydraulic brakes. or you could use f-100's..that's covered in the tech section

good luck with your rat rod

Some do and some dont just like some traditional rods. All cars need front brakes but thats just my oppinion. Let the anti rat rod whine begin.

  5. If you are worried about appearance, skip the discs. Use the later model spindles and the hydraulic drums that go with them.
