Rick,It is a factory install. If you look at the upper part.It even has a metal bump stop. All hardware that holds it on matches the oppisite side and the weird part is its only on the passenger side. The driver side has a regular shackle.
youre car looks cool neverdun i must admit i have never seen one in real life i would like to see more pictures of youre car post youre pictures small in other words resize them .other guys on here seem to post large pictures i dont know how to do that but others will help you here merry christmas mate dave
WOOD????? Termite droppings was more like it. I spot welded all the seams. When I filled the roof I welded it all the way around. I replaced all the floors with steel the first time and welded the doors shut. I guess it's a unibody with a frame. Since it's a rat there is no interior so I don't need anything to attach the interior to. The car is very sound structurally without the wood from the doors back. My only worry is when I cut the roof back out I am going to remove the framing that supported the original top. Then I am going to have a snap on cover for the roof just in case it rains. Like my name says...neverdun.
i have found you an original 29 pontiac ute stored undercover for many years and its for sale pm me for details
So where is everyone at with there Pontiac's?I am just getting started.I got it all braced up and started to get all the door gaps lined up so i can start in the inner metal work. I had to tack the roof on so I can get some idea of how high the A pillars needed to be.Its got to come back off and be trimmed to properly welded it up. I cant figure out what is missing that goes in above the door where the roof meets.I have the drip rail but there should have been some kind of striker pad for the door to sit up against. I also cant figure out how this trunk was.It goes all the way into the roof of the body.Is there something missing? As how would you open it if it was inside of the roof? If someone knows anything about these coupes.I would really like to know also. This stuff is starting to get really frustraiting. Its a 1929 6-29 Pontiac. Thanks in advance.
I just passed on an incomplete 30 coupe for the same reasons, what wasn't there would be imposible to find.
I know that there is more Pontiac guys here than one. I really just need a little input on these issues. Pic's would be a plus.I just cant find pics of these areas.
I've been building alittle on my '42 Hudson project but honestly, not getting much done. Currently trying to build a storage area so to reclaim my shop-it's a disaster! I've been haunting this site a good bit. How's your Pontiac project coming along?
I'm with ya on the lack of money problem. That's been biggest reason my projects aren't advancing like I'd like. If you haven't already figured it out, I can give you the answer on that trunk lid question you had earlier. The front edge of the lid did extend just under the rear edge of the roof section and there is suppossed to be two external hinges (1 per side) that mounted to the body and lid just outside the roof section. I don't see the hinges in your pics but I do see the gaps were they mounted. This positioned the pivot point such that when the lid was raised the front edge of the lid travelled down away from the roof section. When closed, the front edge of the lid loosely sealed against the bottom of the roof section. Not the best water seal but it would keep birds from flying in . That style of lid was used thru 1930 Pontiacs and for the early 1931 Pontiacs. My '31 coupe was of the later design in which the trunk lid did not extend all the way to the roof section but rather stopped off about six inches away from it and used hidden hinges under the lid. Look to see if you have some simple little hinges that you couldn't figure out what they were for. They were small and used a flat-head type bolt for the hinge pin.
That '32 is a great candidate for a resto. Not many around still that complete. I did look at one very similar to that last year but the one I saw had one of the leftover Oakland flattie V8's in it.
I cant figure out what is missing that goes in above the door where the roof meets.I have the drip rail but there should have been some kind of striker pad for the door to sit up against. George, as for the top of the door gap-nope nothing more than the drip rail. There actually was a gap above the door header and the roof that birds could fly thru. Maybe even a small chicken. If you notice, Oakland (remember, the company wasn't named Pontiac until 1932) placed a groove or channel in the wood structure of the door headers that was suppossed to catch rainwater and run it to the rear of the door to drain out. Might work in a small rain, while sitting still, and no wind. I added a piece of rubber onto the bottom of my door opening that works well. That along with the upholstry roping that sealed around the door inside to keep wind noise down.
Rick,I rolled a panel at the shop to take care of that area.I am going to cut out 3 or 4 inches across the trunk lid where it went under the roof and do it like the 31 that you mentioned.I am just not too crazy about having that area open when the car is done.
I have the panel that was there origionally also. There was a large gap there. As there was wood in between.I am going to cut out the the nailer strip across the back to drop that area closer to the top of the door. Also where the roof was attched to the body there are some larger gaps.So when I cut that out I will close that gap quite a bit. Also there is a gap at the filler panel just behinfd the door. When I lower the roof it will also close that gap also.
Rick,Was this deck lid flush across the body originally or did it overlap like I have it in this pic?
It overlapped, even the the later model '31 trunk lid did too. The rumbleseat lids however were flush with the tops of the quarters, or at least the '31's were. Did I read that you are going to lower the roof on it?
Just about 3/8 of an inch.I am going to cut off the old nailer strip across the back. Its all crooked and has a large gap on the driver side where its meets the top of the quarter. That in tern will lower the roof enough to fill most of that gap above the doors.
Gotcha! Guess I got all excited with the word "lower" and thought you decided to chop that top. I still like the 'photochopped' fenderless highboy James did for us last year on this thread but I'm just reluctant to do it.
The thought had crossed my mind. But I think I will blow all the proportions off on that back window if I tryed it.
I know what you mean. I don't think that oval rear window needs any modification and I don't see how one could chop without affecting it. But, this still makes me feel funny all over:
well its good to hear you pontiac guys are alive an kickinghave had some pms over the months.its surprising how many people are interested in early (29 to33)pontiacs.maybe its because of the credit crunch as they are cheaper than a 29 or32 ford and have jalopylike features(l please dont ask me to explain that)all i can say is i love em dave
