At quick glance they look the same, how do they differ, need a photo of the top area above the door hinge. I think the Coupe has an arch and Tudor is flat. Thanks. Bob
Tudor doors are 29" wide and coupe doors are 27" and change wide. This is true on 30-31 for sure. I do not know if 28-29 are the same Sent from my E6810 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks! The fine detail I'm looking for is the slight arch in the window reveal on top, I think the Tudor is flat and the Coupe has an arch. Off to work, hope to have the answer this evening. Bob
Easiest way to tell a 30 coupe door from a tudor/pickup door at a glance is by looking at the inside. If there is a round stamping around the window winder handle area, itsa coupe. No round stamping, then itsa tudor/pickup.
ditto on the arch/ no arch... tudor / truck doors are 4" taller than the top of the upper hinge...29.25" long. coupes are 3" taller than the top of the upper hinge... 27.5 " long. overdoor roof panels are '28-'29 coupe, [ '28-'29 tudor, '30-'31 tudor], '30 truck... they are about the same size but the rain gutter detent is at different angles...HIH.
Thanks Dino! From what I'm learning I think you have a Coupe top, what I need are Tudor tops. These doors look to have flat tops and flat reveals over the windows. Someone made a Tub out of a Tudor and has the cutoff tops under a bench , or two doors dented or rotted up to the glass. Bob
If I recall correct that arch was the difference between Briggs and Murrey, not a Ford thing per se. I know they differed in the 4 door bodies, whether that translated to the tudor and coupe I can't say. be interesting to know.
oj is right, The Murray bodies had the arch at the top of the doors and the Briggs were straight across, now this is on the 4 door bodies. I don't know if the coupe and tudor doors have the same shape, on my '30 tudor the tops are straight.
You guys are correct on the Fordor stuff, but there is a difference in the reveal. I'll post some photos to show the difference. Asking for 1931 Victoria door tops could get me shot, so Tudor tops will have to do. Bob
I built a '28 tudor tub in the '80's, messed with the "armrest area" at the outer doors edges and the B pillars... 1930 and some 1931 fordors used the same door as the coupe, sport coupe... my ford coupe has arched tops... most '29 murray doors were wooden framed... sharper radius at the reveal where you rest your elbow... as the front and rear upper door jams are the same on 29.25" doors you can use either side... also if you only need from the "armrest up, '28-'29 coupe, special coupe, sport coupe, tudor [same length] door tops WILL work... rock on !
Check out this thread from @D-Russ on his killer Vicky. Lots of pictures on the entire build up, but you will probably find the door pictures you are looking for. The Vicky is an animal unto its own in a lot of ways. coupe and tudor stuff is all different.
Helps if I add the link..... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/31-model-a-victoria-build-w-pics--miss-vicky.277085/
Thanks Jason, that Vicky build is one of my all time HAMB favorites. This shot illustrates perfectly what I'm trying to do with Slant Window Fordor door tops. Tops get longer when you chop things. Bob
I built a 30 Vicky in the 80's, used s/w fordor cowl and front doors and the Vicky rear clip... a little short, Vicky door is 5" longer than the fordor... but a buddy's wife bought it... he still drives it... the fordor front side window is taller than the Vicky quarter window, I had to chop the fordor doors about 5/8"... go bob go !
