Cheers, I would like to use my original 1930 Chevy wire wheels that are 6 by 5.5 bolt pattern but every brake kit I have found at Speedway Etc... only come in 5 bolt. Can I piece some parts together to make this work? Looked into a wheel adapter but they are $200 bucks and are 2" thick, so don't no what that would look like. Any one have a fix for this? Your help is appreciated. Thank you all and drive safe.

  2. Sure,

You can use either a Toyota 4Runner or Nissan B2300 (number may not be correct) pickup rear, as both have the same lug pattern AND are just about the same width as the original rear. You will have to make a spacer for between the wheel and the brake drum, but other than that, you're good to go!

Old style wires don't do well on disc brake fronts. The offset is out in left field, even without the butt ugly 2" wide adapters that I have seen on here.

The imaginary line of the kingpin should intersect the road "under" part of the tire tread, not 3" inside of the tire sidewall :)

So what do you figure scrap the wheels? What about drums? Thanks

  5. There is someone making 6 lug disc brake conversions for the 47-54 trucks, maybe it is ECI? If you can figure out what rotor is used (Chevy 4wd? Japanese mini truck?) you can then figure out the bearings to fit and caliper bracket you need to fab.

But I agree, with the wire wheels, drums would look better.

  6. If you stay with drum on the front, you can use an early 50's Chevrolet pickup front axle. It will bolt right in and give you hydraulic brakes.

OK, I have found a pair of 1950 chevy truck 6 lug brake and hubs. Will these work with a speedway chevy axle and chevy car spindles? Sorry for all the questions but i find my self buying parts I can't use all the time so trying to do my homework this time. Thanks Ryan
