I have a 1930 Ford 5-window coupe with a 1950 Mercury flathead attached to a 1967 ford top loader transmission. The original 1950 bell-housing and clutch system was used along with the 1950 clutch-brake pedals and clutch release shaft. Every thing shifted fine until recently, but now 1st & 2cd gear sometime locks out or is hard shifting. Would anyone know what the travel amount of the pivot shaft that attaches to the release shaft bar and controls the through-bearing when the clutch pedal is depressed? Thanks for any information-help!
Curious what your clutch/transmission setup looks like, because the '50 Merc's stamped bell housing was only 3" deep and the clutch release shaft/throw-out bearing was installed/part of the '50 transmission case, like '39-'48 Mercs. If you can see the T/O bearing's clearance to the pressure plate, adjust for about 0.100" with the pedal fully spring released. Adjustment may be all that's wrong.
