Hello everyone, I am building a 30 ford pickup, got my 48 flathead already. I still need to find a banjo rear rear end, and transmission. This is my first rod using a flathead. I want to keep a nice traditional old school look and feel. I still want to use the 30 wheels. If I use a rear end and brakes out of a 40 to 48 f1...will that work/fit. I was told those baking plates will bolt up to a model A axle. What is a good trans that i should be looking for. I did see one of my pals use the steering box out of an f1 as well for his 30 coupe. Suggestions?

  2. The F1 box is a popular choice, they're fairly pricey. Crossmember from same makes it easier to go to hydraulic brakes. You can almost use one as a complete donor for brakes, rearend, trans, the works, although a car transmission will probably have a better first gear. It also might be worth looking at using a T5 transmission, with OD, to make the car a little more drivable. There are ways to use those with both open and closed drive setups.

Might want to get a copy of I believe it's called How To Build Early Ford Hot Rods, readly available on eBay and Amazon.
