Hi guys, I found a Model A locally that I'm interested in. Was hoping to get some input from some members here on the car before I go check it out in person. Here is the CL add if you want to get an idea. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/cto/5679974396.html The price is negotiable btw. I want to know what I should specifically look for related to the body and frame since this is original steel. Are there specific critical areas to inspect or anything I should look out for before making a deal? You guys have talked me out of some cars in the past so I appreciate the advice and experienced input since I know only basic knowledge about anything pre 60's era but always wanted to own something like this. I'm thinking this car would look a lot better with some larger tires and different wheels and perhaps a different carb/intake setup something more period correct.
WOW! Over $52K spent on the car! I'm not seeing it really. Looks like a fun little car with a pretty average engine. Hope you're not planning on helping him recover his "investment". Good luck.
You should be able to buy 2 finished coupes for 52,000 bucks! WTF? Check some of the stuff on here for sale; just as nice and nowhere near that much money- that's CRAZY!
The add says 33k asking price but he's willing to do a deal at 25k. I regularly look here, CL, and eBay but haven't had much luck finding anything locally in a while.
$25 to me is probably a "fair" price I would guess. I just looked around at some around my area and that's about what comparable ones are going for. Anywhere between $20-$30.
I sold my roadster a year ago for $18,000.00. That was a Glass body so I knew it would bring less, that said I had less than 15K in it and I did all the labor myself. I guess if the guys at Gas Monkey did it .............. well 52K seems like a lot. I think in todays market it's a $25,000.00 car but I don't have the advantage of seeing it up close.
It's not a bad little car. I have seen it many times as it belonged to guy that was part of my "Pop's" chapter of the Over the Hill Gang. Now here is the dirt. When he first bought the car, it had a MustangII front end (ya, it was a bad as it sounds) on a boxed original frame. I looked at it for him to put a front cross member and early Ford front end, and I recommended building a new chassis, as what was there was pretty shaggy. He probably didn't like my price and went elsewhere, but I wouldn't doubt that beat up original frame is still under the car with all of the Mustang II stuff happily torched off. It also in a side profile looks a bit "off", and I'll bet it lost an inch or two of wheel base in the MustangII removal. The paint work looks nice enough, and the interior is awesome. That's all I've got...
