Dino , I will post some detailed pictures of the setup , , i am waiting on some parts to arrive from the US.
Its time to chop the top this is my first time , i hope i don’t mess things up . its a 3" chop i have a picture of a car that was for sale on ebay few months back, trying to do the same with my coupe.
engine in, i have been waiting for the flywheel to arrive for more than 3 weeks , orders one from speedway and it was the wrong one , i was so frustrated especially when shipping cost a triple the part price. i managed to find one locally today. now i have a problem with the oil filter ,i need to relocate the oil filter or use an adapter . the steering box is not clearing the filter.
Lookin' good. That oil filter situation is one of many challenges to using the 289. You can get a shorter oil filter which was for a van application, but I don't know if it will clear. Looks like things are coming together... great job
You are of to a good start on your coupe!I noticed that you are a speedway customer. They have several adapters available for relocating your oil filter.
i think ill use the 90 degree adapter, but will it clear the fuel pump? m-6880-a50 is a 90 degree adapter , the filter will be on the front , close to the fuel pump. do they make any 90 degree adapters where i can mount the filter to the back.
When I put my sedan together in the eighties I set the motor over to the right about an inch and it allowed me to use the short filter and gave me more steering column room
I can't change the motor position now , because i will have to change the position of the transmission mount also , and the frame is painted , i don't want to respray again. Jegs reply saying that the adapter will not clear the mechanical fuel pump. so i guess my only option is a remote oil filter .
Since you asked for opinions, I would say no on the fake patina. I never understood why anyone would want to take the time to paint a car that could be nice and ten purposely mess up the paint. Natural patina has character and that's why people like it. It cannot be recreated. Fake patina always looks fake and always looks to me like someone is trying too hard to be "cool"
Very nice build and thanks for taking the time to do***ent it for us. It looks like you are using the T 5 with the shifter at the end of the tailshaft. Have you considered if it will hit the seat? You may want to look at using an S 10 tailshaft with the shifter closer to the front of the trans. You seem to have planned your build very carefully, so I am somewhat hesitant to bring this up. But better now than a surprise near the end of the project.
Wow, you're really moving along. Looks great. What if the filter adapter is tuned towards the rear? Thanks for the detail pics showing the hydraulic clutch set up. Where did you get those headers? Nice !
****** , totally agree , after a lot of thinking i decided not to go with the fake patina. i really like the result , but i will always know that its fake. Spitbucket , yes i am using t5 . regarding the seat, i did not think of that. i will have measure things again ,thanks for bringing this up. Dino64 , its not possible to turn the adapter the opposite way ,even if i could the engine mount will hit the filter. headers from speedway , lake headers .
Roger thanks. more pictures this metal fabricator is the best , he worked on all my cars now he is filling the roof harmonic balancer and pulleys tomorrow i will test fit the radiator and 32 grill
Electric fan in front. I recall someone shortening/machining the stalk. Or short pump if not already.
Your build is coming along great- I'm all for the 3" chop ( keeps the proportions right to me). I've cut 3 up; all 3", and liked them all. Fans are always a pain in the ***- I screwed around for 2 weeks trying to squeeze one in my coupe with a flattie, and finally said the hell with it and got an electric fan. I'd rather be driving than tearing my hair out!
after a lot of thinking i think i can use 2 electric fans 10"upper and 8" lower, not sure though .have to test fit first. totally agree 3" is the way to go. no more no less.
I read in another thread that planning should start at the radiator. Set that first. Then use that to set the engine location. Then move the firewall to make it fit. Doing it that way, you don't run in to clearance problems at the fan. Seems like good advice to me. Bit late to do you any good now though.
David , your right , its better to start with the radiator if your building a frame from scratch. in my case bolingbrothers supplied me with the frame and most of the parts. so far so good till i reached this stage. i emailed bolingbrothers , maybe they have different solution. now lets move to the next problem the distributor is hitting the intake . i may need to grind the intake few mm .
