I will try to post pictures of my Dads old hotrod, well it's mine know but he built it in 1959. I hope to have it on the road this summer. It has a 1955 331 hemi 59 ramble tail lights and a 5 speed ******.
Very cool. Is the trunk treatment from the original build? I'd love to see pics of it back in the day.
The car was made into a farm truck in it's day. My father had no trunk lid or pan. He had a piece of sheet metal rolled for a trunk and a pan. He thought it looked to flat and added the ribs. I will scan some old pictures of the car at work and try to post them.
That is awesome that you are giving this car a new lease on life and keeping it in the family! Good luck
That's rad. Please scan those pics, I would (and many others im sure.) would love to see them. And more of your build also.
Nice to see the old dodge's with Wisconsin Plates. Hope to see it in shows around east side of Wisconsin. Thanks for the pictures, helps me make my mind up what to do with the front end on my 29 dodge, now I know!, going to keep my original parallel leafs up front and may be the rear also.
Cool, I say try and replicate it as close as you can, without the leaf springs hanging out back, that is. Lucky to have this. I'm going to watch.
My father always wanted a 1932 ford 3 window coupe. He said everything in our area was made into a stock car before he could build one. All he had to go off of was pictures in the little pages. He found this car in a junk yard and thought it was as close to a 1932 ford as he could find. He said his father yelled when the wrecker dragged it home wanting to know what the hell he is going to do with that thing. Then the next day the wrecker brought the 331 hemi and he asked what he was going to do with that and he said put it in that old dodge coupe.Grampa said the hell you are. Well I guess my Dad won out.
Someone installed a jag rearend and cut the frame off. I removed it and put in a 9 inch. My dad never liked the rear leafs sold it before he changed it but he always wanted to install nerf bars so we are making some for it.
Neat! What 5 speed did it have when built? the only 5 speed I can think of is a big truck........dodge? Don't let it leave the family.
The car had a 3 speed top loader from a 39 merc. then he had a tork flight from the flying duchman. I wanted to drive this thing every were so I put a 5 speed from a camaro in it. I know some people won't like that o well.
Dad is helping rebuild the car. He did't want me to buy it back thought it was to much money and he loves the 1932 ford 3 windows. But I thinkn he is really liking having it back in the family. My Dad has 3 hot rods now. His favorite a1932 ford 3 window black with candy blue flames, a 1930 model a coupe that he built 25 years ago and a 1932 ford roadster that he might have on the road this summer.
Thanks, I'm trying went to harbor freight and bought a english wheel, bead roller and a shrinker stretcher
31 Dodger, Do you know from looking at the car what it is? Thats the first thing original guys ask me when I'm looking for parts. I need door handles and for lack of a better term the windshield hold downs
Yah my dad is great he is building a 1932 for roadster with a 354 hemi. He isn't a period correct car builder he does what he likes. I guess when your 68 years old you can do that.
The trunk spears remind me of the trim that came on '58 Corvette trunks, only one year. It is definitely cool that your redoing your dad's old ride and knowing he is still around to see it take place is priceless. You say he thought it was too much money to buy it back but I'm betting he was secretly hoping it would happen. Keep us posted as the rebuild continues. BTW, your dad is my age....................hope we both have a lot of years left to enjoy this hobby. Frank
Well, I can tell it started out as a 1931 Dodge Brothers DH6 business coupe...1 of 3,178 built. Looks like the cowl vents have been filled and of course, the trunk area heavily modified. Yours is the later version with three door hinges. My primer red one has the three hinges.
Frank, I agree the trunk looks like a 1958 Corvette. My father and I were walking around the Back to the 50's car show in Min. We found a 1954 Buick Skylark, it looks more like it than the Corvette I started razzing my Dad that I thought he came up with the Idea on his own. He still claims he did and never seen a buick like this before (HIS FATHER WAS A BUICK MAN) but I still like to tease him about it. I pray you both have many years left of this hobby. I think of my Father as my best friend. He is trying to finish his 1932 ford roadster this summer. I would like to line up all of his cars and post a picture the dodge included.
