well, i finally found me a 30/31 ford coupe, car was out of New mexico originally and bought off the original owner back in 1979 and restored. Then it was passed down through his family until last weekend to my son and I..She hasnt ran in 4 years, but we got her fired up yesterday...im amazed at the good deals these little model A's present to hot rodders on todays market!...I need some help from you hamb'rs...Ive search for hours here, I must just be keyboard retarded as I can't find info on wheel brand and sizes. I want to slam it like the cars below in the pics....looking for what im assuming are about 4" wide rims in the front and maybe 5-6" solids in the back, but I dont know offset and tire sizes, but I know we dig this look..wish she wasnt green but oh well...lol.....also I will be selling the wheels off it and bumpers and horn and brackets, whats that stuff worth, any ideas? thanks, cam IMG_8833.JPG IMG_9969edit.jpg Adam_1.jpg

Wheels are the easy part. 1940-48 Ford are 16"and Pickup wheels until early '60's are 15" that will bolt on and take the popular years of hub cap. The more important part is getting the suspension right. Springs, axles and brakes. There are tons of threads on doing the modifications, keep searching and reading.

I have a oem front A axle with 46 ford front juice brakes i got off a buddy, looking for a set of juice brakes for the rear...the rear wheels seem ez to find buy narrow front rims seem to be elusive....plans are a 12 volt mini alternator and downdraft carb and header and putt it like that for awhile until we scrounge up more parts for an old school v8 conversion...but for now the 4banger will stay put...just need a dropped front axle and maybe a lowered rear spring for the back and wheels....

Do you mean 1935 Ford wire wheels ?
they are 16" and 4" wide...
many different size tires for them... black and whitewalls and heaven forbid radials...
I see them [rusty ones] for about $50 and up …

I like the wires but here in ca. i cant find them anymore, was just going to go with a 15" or 16" diameter rim, but a 3.5-4" front and maybe a 5 or 6" back i was thinking? coker makes some cool bias 7.10-15 rears that are 29" tall that would look sweet..

'46-'48 Mercury will be a 15" that looks like a 16" [takes the same hubcaps] .
    '58 ? t0 '64 ? trucks had the 15" that looked like 16"s but a little wider, same caps...
never seen a 3.5" solid wheel not on a drag car...
most have not legal in CA. cast/stamped into them...
ask your local buddies what the state laws allow...

A fairly simple way to lower the ass end is to use a T spring.

1940 V8-60 wheels were 3.5, fairly rare which means expensive.

4" fronts and 5"s on the back i think is what those model As are running....I emailed wheel vintigues to see if they can make them so i dont have to spend all day driving around bfe then another day on my lathe welding it all together....

  12. Remember if you run the early Ford solid rims on early Ford mechanical drums/hubs you need spacers. If you run the early Ford wire wheels on early Ford hydraulic drums/hubs you need spacers/adapters. Ignore them and you will get cracks or failure.

I don't remember seeing wanted ads for wire wheels? If you think we have problems, the rest of the world is has bigger problems.

Remember if the tires on there are from 1979 they are probably not safe for high speed no matter how good they look.

    The car looks great.

  13. How about an ad on fordbarn to swap original wheels for '35 Ford wheels or Kelseys? Also say original wheels for sale after replacements are found.
