Here a shot of my 31 PA coupe. dropped front axle on parallel leafs and a tubbed rear, rides like shit! I am trying to figure out what to do with the suspension to make it a better ride at highway speed.

I'm not a front end man put what kind of caster are you runnin' on that axle? My experience is more caster steers harder but settles 'em down a little at speed. Just a thought:D

  3. Lose the fenders, sell them to finance some more of the project.
I'd personally keep the hood but lose the sides, looks nice with headers sticking through the side
Keep the six, or at least stick with a Mopar if you decide to go with a V8.
Keep the parallel leafs, I think it looks kinda kool and different, and I have seen a few fenderless rods with the parallel leafs, as long as it's clean it looks awesome.

However, the best thing you could possibly do with that car is sell it to me.

Loose the fenders, radiator and hood and put a Potvin 6-71 off the crankshaft on the front of a hemi with lots of setback, and slicks or atleast thats my plan on my '30 plymouth, Damn i'm a sick bastard

    I know, that's gay!

I wouldn't be afraid to run the fenders if your not totally against the idea. You would be surprised to see how that sets your car apart these days. If not look at OLD lake pics because they were using the parallel leaf suspension quite frequently out there. They may have a few cool tricks to use.

I agree. Jeff, I get flamed on here every once in awhile cuz of my view about the big swooping fenders on the 20's+30's cars. I love 'em. Way too many people now have yanked off the fenders to where now you almost have to dig to find one with any. Fenderless roadsters are great, but those fenders are just too cool/stylish to leave off for me.
Think of it this way, it shouldn't be too hard to find replacements if yours are shot!

  12. What to do with the suspension. It depends on how much grief you want to let yourself in for, and how great your fabricating skills are. For my money, if I was bulding it, wanted readily available parts, a great ride, and expectations of being finished in this lifetime-----. I would keep the stock frame, put in an early mustang rearend (I know they are the right width), a set of rear coil overs and a parallel 4 bar set up with a rear panhard rod. I would buy an aftermarket model A front crossmember and swap it into place (burn out the Mopar front crossmember). Then buy a complete front end set up for Ford from super Bell---4" dropped axle with transverse leaf spring, batwings and 4 bars, and again a Panhard rod. I would go with a Vega cross steer set up for good handling and no bump steer. That way all of the parts you need can be purchased for reasonable price and delivered tomorrow from Speedway, or Pete and Jakes. The Ford parts are also the most prevalent parts that show up at swap meets. Of course, thats just what I'd do.---Brian

    BHahahhahahaha........

Leave it unchopped, leave the fenders, 6'' dropped axle from Speedway with your brakes of choice in front, any rear that will fit and blocks and a few leaves removed, chrome reverse all around.

    Your paint of choice.

    Done.

I have a33 plymouth pd coupe It had a 327 in it which I just removed + replaced with a modified 230 6 out of a48 dodge it's running the turbo 350 that was hooked to the 327. Full fendered + running parallel leafs in front + rear with an econoline axel with chevy discs. Has no issues with the stock + was over a 100mph many times + did nothing scary!

Here are some pics of my 31 plymouth (first rod i built), note the grill, grill shell difference. this according to the VIN was a Windsor, Ontario built car. Didn't go with parallel leaf susp./fenders cause it was long gone so I went model A frt x member/4" drop axle/P & J ladder bar w. coilovers, rode pretty good. and the 354 Hemi fit pretty good with a 5" recess firewall, these cars are roomy inside, still lots of leg room.

Heres the plan for suspension Lucky 7 (complete) I beam drilled and 4" drop Batwings ,Vega steering I got a rear out of a early bronco 9" Need to check ratio What would be a good ratio for street and hiway running?.Not sure about if I should run rear parallel 4 bar or triangulated 4 link both systems use coil overs system. Looking for some in put? and if the rear should stay drums or change to disc? As far as drive train I got a low mileage 360 mopar and transmission automatic (bad Knees) that I will run for now. I have a early Chrysler hemi but needs rebuilding and transmission . Let me know what you think Joe

  28. Looking good Marfen!!!!!!! I am toying with the same front end set up only I want to use a Mopar 'double dip' axle and buggy spring.

On that I'd keep the fenders and the hood top, run a 440 with cross ram 4spd
