A 32 five window that i am piecing back together a little tougher than the 3 window but aren't all 32 worth saving this car will have some rust repair that is almost finished. and if i get in gear next weekend it will receive a nice rake chop. I failed to get some good before shots of this car when the cowl was off and the parts were ****ted. but still a good start on building a five window.
I spoke on your 3w thread too soon. This is where I should have focused my attention and questions. I have this same ripping problem in a similar area. Interested to see ho you tackle that.
Mine looks worse than this one, and I also have the tears and the ends of the quarters torn off. I 'll be watching this closley. A big thanks for posting.
The rear patches were made form some patterns i Have, the parts were roughed in with the English wheel and then the pexto bead roller put in the details. I will finish the lower edge after the panel below is in place. The cowl sides were also made. the subframe and wheel wells were from Brookville and the rest of the patch panels rockers, door inners and quarter patches are from RJ enterprises in KS. the top of the quarter patch are on the list for tomorrow. then a lot of weld grinding and metal work before the top is chopped.
Big set back today went to test fit the fuel tank the panel below was a 1 1/4" to high after some struggling and refitting the whole body was rolled forward slightly, cut th quarter patches back out reset the A and B pillar. now starting over double checking the measurements as i go, I have put three five windows back together that were all in pieces this is the first time i have had the angle of the pillars throw me off. should be back to where i was tomorrow. Just like two stepping one step forward two steps back. I gave a little thought about change the tail of the frame to make up the difference but that wouldn't be right and who knows if later down the line the owner might put a different frame under the car, it needed to be right.
Hey Rex, On fabbin the patches for the quarters- were the patterns made from low-tack tape patterns, Bondo/plaster splash type or paper? I can get the crown & shape into the panel o.k. with a wheel/shrinker & the bead/swage lines into the panel o.k. gettin the correct crown & correct shape & layout of the swages on the same panel.........................that's a horse of a different colour! Great metalwork you've shown, there! " Life ain't no Disney movie "
Nice work Rex. I will be watching the build process. I didn't see you or your company at the GNRS this year.
Geesh if the greats such as your self have setbacks I almost thinks it's going to be kind of funny to watch mine come together. I'll probably weld the quarters to the firewall or some **** haha!!! Man at least you caught it now and have the know how to fix it correctly. Put some more pics up!!!
Made some progress on the five window. I had to go back and change the angle of the A pillar and B pillars to get enough clearance for the fuel tank. been working on getting the rust repair panels in, I am doing his project at home so i don't have all the tools that i have at work so sometimes making the patches takes a bit longer the top of the quarter panel patch pattern was made and the part was stretched out over a chunk of railroad iron then the a Pexto bead roller was used to put in the detail. one of theses days i need to make a hammer form for this area just about every 5 window needs this patch. I need to finish metal working the body out and the install all the bracing for the body hope full by the end of next week i can get the chop layout worked out and the bracing done and lower the roof of this cars soon.
Nice work! Your an artist and I wish I had half your talent; keep us posted of the progress. I really like the lower rear patch panels.
I am looking for a header to replace this one it is a little on the thin side, other than that getting closer to chopping the car soon hopefully by sunday i will be ready to do the layout.
