New projects arrived home. 1932 5w coupe Project from CA, USA and early 60´s FED from AL ,USA. Coupe is "big job" but I think, it will be ready after next winter. I start that Project after summer, end of September, this year. Dragster need to wait,.... AULIS
Thanks. Deuce needs very much new sheet metal, but that is OK for me. I bought new woods and small stuff. Already have some vintage and original parts ready waiting for this Project. Engine will be blown flathead (my thread earlier this year here in HAMB),.... Aulis
Man, oh man....I totally love the look of the 2 projects!!! Especially the coupe!....Heck, I'd pull a lawn chair up in front of the garage and just smile for an hour or two just for the satisfaction of it all!....nice scores indeed
Same here....I like the 5 window.....Looks like it will make a great hot rod. Can't get over they just keep turning up here and there......Now I want one.
Thank You Sirs ! Positive feedback gives more engergy to start Project. We have short summer, so after 3-4month, I start to weld coupe together. By the way; I bought both cars from HamB !!! Thanks for this website ! Coupe needs new rear inner fenders, new rear quarters. Both sides are more "junk" than I expected. Trunk lid skin was also junk, but I have one good skin here and bought new brookville inner skin. Below deck lid panel is easy to make new, but UP panel (complete) is very good quality and costs only little over 200usd.....-> so I bought new one. I can say that quality is better than Henry Ford original panel. Im just thinking top every day. Am I chop it or leave like it is? I have already 32 deuce which I chopped (4.75"). If I chop this car, total will be 2-3" or leave like it is. Opinions ? here 2pic of my "old girlfriend" (4.75" chopped). I like that TOP outlook. Angry and looks like fast,... Aulis
Very nice project. Maybe it's just me, but if I had one chopped, I think I'd leave the other one unchopped. You will get many different opinions on that question. Either way it looks like the coupe is in good hands.
I like your 5 window but your cat does not like the FED. What's his opinion on the 5W? Here in Australia all glass cars are chopped 3" so if it's not chopped it has to be steel! I'm in similar situation to you as I have a chopped 5W (glass) and am building an unchopped one. Keep looking at the chopped one - love the look of chopped 32-5W's. Big decision ahead for you.
It should be illegal to export are cars now we have one less 32. Put that blown flathead in it and get it back on a boat to my house, hang the doors and do not chop it. If all is done in a timely matter we will drop all charges of international car trafficking. With all jokes aside I say you don't chop it and built it like an old time ice racer with studded tires so you can go race on your frozen lakes... Then in summer put street tires on when the ice melts. We know you will make her pretty so good luck and get to work.
Hahaa,... export hot rod projects or ready cars from USA to North-Europe is only way to get small touch real hot rodding here middle of nowhere,...... I leave it "high and high" (top, frame). I have chopped grey one (steel henry ford too), which I built 2006-2007 and this one must look more late 40´s-early 50´s style. I was think that I leave car like it is now, but 10-20" long cracks everywhere and missing too much sheet metal,...... Floor and support rails are brand new, so I make new quarters (I will cut both sides 1/2" under bead line,.. 4 doors with car, but only two of those are reasonable condition project doors. No garnish mouldings, and those are so f,....king expensive. Aulis
Hello. All summer has been Rod´n´Roll. Not best summer here in North-Europe, but if looks all the time weather reports, its better stay home... After 3 weeks I start to built this hot rod. During summer I have lift engine and tranny off. Frame is 100% good, tranny was rebuilt, rear axle has been rebuilt. Engine will be Italmeccanica blown flathead. All missing parts are bought. Now need "only" work 2-3month with body (sheet metal jobs). Rear quarters need to make totally new. Door skins need to make new. RH cowl side need to make new. Body is all around more or less like potato sack, but that is not problem. Now I have seen daily this "high top" deuce on my field . I do not like it. No rock´n´roll, no attitude. Maybe I chop top little,.... Anyway, I send pics to this topic , when Project is going foward Aulis
looks like a very cool project, if i had a chopped one i would be tempted to leave this one stock to look different.
I'm sure this coupe will be bad ass! I've purchased you lower rad hoses and have seen the other parts you recreated or created on your own.... This should be walk in the park.
Hey, Aulis; Since you've already got one deuce whacked, if you *really must* whack this one, how about a chop of only 3/4"-> maybe 1 1/4". Leave the troops scratchin' their heads & arguing over weather it's actually cut or not. Rather sneaky. . Since you have to fab door skins, qtrs, etc, anyways, maybe consider: Another way, that Tex Smith brought up years ago - & I've only seen pics once - is to section the cowl, doors, & under-the-turret-front-portion-of-the-rear-qtr-panel. The top stays full height, back window gets cut down the same amount as the section. Top could also be chopped just a bit. Does give a different look, but after a couple of glances, it grows on you. Sectioned from the front, chopped from rear. Very sneaky. The only tricky portion would be the beltline going around the C pillar (turret below n behind the qtr windows). BTW, your cat looks almost identical to mine. Mine is partial to sleeping in my various Studes. "A cats' natural habitat: a 1950 Stude!" What's the FED getting for a mill? Marcus...
That coupe is gonna be an awesome fun build. You really hit the bulls eye on that one!.......but somebody has been missing that dartboard on the side of your garage big time.
Great score Aulis! I vote to leave the top as is. Most 5 windows are cut, and its always refreshing to see one stock height. Are you planning to run fenders, or leave it as a high boy? Good luck with it... I'll be watching.
I saw one at Frog Follies that wasn't chopped, but the owner channeled it over the frame and it looked really good.
