Month ago we decided to race in Finnish championship serie final competition.
Oskar was crew chief, I was driver and one of my friend was mechanic.
Historical vehicle GS Buick runs great 13,0sec 1/4mile. We found old 10.5-15 (28" height) slicks, bolted off exhaust, increased 4 point Simpson belts days before race. This is hot rodding! gs-164.jpg gs-165.jpg gs-166.jpg gs-167.jpg gs-168.jpg gs-169.jpg gs-170.jpg gs-171.jpg gs-172.jpg gs-173.jpg

Driverside ready. When chopped top, I stretch it 19-20mm (3/4"). Now Need to drill all mounting holes new place.
    Quarter window woods I have chopped 90mm (+- 1mm).
Rear window I chopped only 70mm, less than top, because many times rear window hole look more or less "mailbox" opening.

sheetmetals above doors fits good. Those I have also stretched 19-20mm.

wood and panel above windshield installed.
    chop homemade garnish mouldings.

I have original rear windown garnish moulding. Maybe I sell it and make same style than door mouldings.

I think Oak. I have bought over 6y ago ready kit from United Pasific - UP.
OK quality. Rather expensive set, but then I still had hot rod shop and had good discount.

Friday I made DRV side garnish moulding.
Now , Monday, Im just welding PASS side.

    Monday Passanger side garnish moulding.

Tomorrow quarter window mouldings. I have two width garnish moulding material which I have turned in my friends company where they make tubes/canals for bigger buildings air condition/climate control. They have big automated benders.

Tomorow morning I drive there and made 3meter 5mm wider. Two last pic: I install 4mm plywood between garnish wood and garnish moulding. That´s why need to made wider garnish moulding material.

first pic: One friend has company which makes machines to food industry: They laser cut me header flanges. Good quality.

Pic1 : Door mouldings are drilled and bolted on.
Pic2: there is needed three different "deep" material. left = for quarter windows, middle = for doors and rear window, right = for doors.

Pass side quarter window garnish moulding "under construction".
I was work with it 6hours, still not ready. Maybe better way to do those is do it 2pieces and weld together.
Now I tried to do it one piece... Not good yet, but tomorrow it looks better.

funny to contrast these perfect fitting pieces with the 'brookville quarters' convo that is ongoing....lots of time and patience needed that isn't available to mass produce!

Must be stupid/crazy to make itself those parts. How can I say it "helps if " little stupid or even simple mind....."
It would be very much easier buy new ones. I like test, make and learn.
I have also bought many panels from UP, like panel between tank and trunk lid, tunk lid inner panel.... I dont like that new production firewall, but I don´t have any original, so need to use this one. It "smells too much China"....

Friday. rear window moulding is nearly ready.

Note! my old shrinker/strecher bench. 283cid chevy sb valve springs has been harder use last 25 years than before that.

Hahaa.... maybe its just SISU what we have here.
And every evening 10-15min in 80-100 decrees Celsius Sauna (throw water on heater stones) makes all hot rodder more than happy. (we have 3,2million sauna in Finland. More than cars. Only 5million inhabitant).

This building is most interesting thing. OK, its nice to own hot rod or drive long ride,...but building gives good vibrations.

Today I heat and turned thos suppots between top woods and side woods. Im not sure what is original style, but I did it like in pic. I used circular saw and made those oak trims inside of door where I screw garnisch mouldings.
    10mm x 25mm x 550mm size fits good in their places.

Tomorrow need to make cardboard models and start to cut interior plywoods (kickpanels, door panels, rear quarter panels, rear wall panel.....)

So much thing to do outside. Lathe 1100W 230V AC motor didn´t keep its smoke inside,... so I need to bought new one. Lucky me, we have here big "china shit machine" - import company ( www.koneita.com/en ).
Small Lathe is so important. I have bigger old "made in Czechoslovakia" lathe 30km away from Seinäjoki city.

Today made kickpanel and doorpanel cardboard models.
    Tomorrow continue with sidepanel models rod-coupe667.jpg rod-coupe668.jpg rod-coupe669.jpg rod-coupe670.jpg rod-coupe671.jpg

    Thanks.
Mostly all jobs only need basic working, testing, fitting, working... No expensive speedshop needed at all.
OK, it helps if have good sheetmetal machines. I dont have that money to buy those big quality machines like Eckold, Baileigh... OK, many things like englishwheel need to be good quality, not China made. I bought those own beadroller machine and englishwheel from Lazze. Man who moved from sweden to California and arrange there sheet metal classes (https://www.lazzemetalshaping.com )
I havent been his course, but have his book and watched his short videos (Youtube)

Pullmax is good. I paid 1000euro, + 200euro equalizer with foodpedal + 750euro eckold shrinking jaws (https://www.eckold.de/en/technologies/forming/forming-tools/ ). Thats all. OK, those old small shrinker and stretcher are needed. Those I bought 30y ago from Norco CA (Lowbuck tools). Sandbag, hammers (new or old), files, ...
I wonder many time how good machines they have when see TV series from USA. One TV serie where man in Canada is built cars,... his tools are bad and quality is hmmm... how can I say it nice "interesting".

its 5.30 morning. Fireplace is ready, I can close smokestack. Back to garage before dayjob customers are start to disturb me.
