Projects 1932 Chevrolet coupe build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRodBen1987, Jul 30, 2009.

  1. Ben,

Sorry I got lost there for a while. I haven't been over to Mt. Juliet cruise in a while, I'm on the west side of Nashvegas. Also, had a little fire damage on the 31 Pontiac recently-nothing serious just had a wire rub against side of block and burned several other wires. The wire was suppossed to be in conduit but had slipped out at some time. Scarey though when you see smoke from under the hood, and then flames. I'll get everything redone and back out to some cruises soon. You and your dad going to Shades this year?

Yeah that last one was just a quick picture from my phone. And you aint kiddin...it took forever to drill that axle. I had to drill the holes halfway through then flip the axle and do the other side...

  8. man, this is really moving along at an awesome pace-even without a film crew nearby

  9. Yep, Friday and Saturday, but probably not with the rod. I didn't go to the show last year either, not sure about this year. I've got a 3 year old boy (you'll be there some day!) so we now spend alot of time doing Dollywood, amusement rides, etc. intermingled with my checking out cars and trucks.

  10. Hey guy, fire was not that bad as I got it out before it burned thru the rubber connection on the gas line, but it got close. No paint damage at all.

I keep hoping you'll meet me halfway with those parts, say about Arkansas:D. Kiddin', but hoping things will get better soon, and maybe get the family to make a road trip someday. Or find somebody with a trailer making the trip from there close to here. Hope I'm not puttin you out with them? Rick

  11. Ben, this car's gonna be cool-can't wait to see it on the road. Rick

Nope,I am in rush to sell them. I know that you are the Poncho Guy and you would most likley get the best use out of them.

I got a real fire under my ass to start working on mine though. Just with my work schedule its been tuff finding the energy to.

    I hope all is well.

If any one can get a few shots of how the top of the door seals to the actual roof area on a 29 Pontiac it would be great. Its for a 6-29 3 window coupe.

This has had me at a stand still forever .

I am sure that 29-30 Chevy or Pontiac would be simular

That's a cool looking car Ben. I have a 1932 chevy truck I'm building, I want to swap out the crappy OEM tie rods with more modern ones, do you or anybody here know what make and year will work with the original drag link?

Not real sure but just measure what size and thread it is and it probably wouldn't be too hard to find something to fit. Good luck

One 1 inch hole saw did the whole axle (17 holes) and I'm drilling 2 inch holes in the frame right now (56 holes in all), still not done, and on my 4th hole saw. A lot of cutting oil and even more time...

    Dang.
Maybe I have been slacking, but I see you're not. I gotta believe that drill press is smokin. Stayed up all night drilling 56 holes. (aaah youth) But really you're frame is gonna be good looking when finished.

Ben,What did you use for the sleeves in the frame?

You going to have a roller real quick at this pace.

Yeah I have been pretty hard on that drill press lately but it hasnt failed me yet. And I did those holes over a few days workin here and there. They do take what seems like forever though. Thanks everybody for all the encouraging words

awsome build man the chassis looks great. I saw in one picture your using a stone wheel on the grinder. I dont know if you where using that just to nock it down then running a flap wheel or abrasive disc like a 36 or 80 grit. That way you dont gauge the steel so much. If your already doing that then ignore this post. But it might help you if you arent using em now~!

thanks man and yea i was mainly just using it to knock those welds down and the frames 3/16" thick so i aint too worried about it but thanks for the heads up. ill prob end up sandblasting it all when i get it finished and do a little fill work over those welds
