Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Slickster51_50, Jun 4, 2009.

  1. Hey Slick, I got your pm this morning and had to find your post. That thing is really coming along and looking good. I remember when I put my motor in and set the tunnlel ram on top I was so stoked, what a great feeling that is and yes I started making varoom sounds and my wife walked in and started laughing at me. I started putting mine back together this week after working on my truck build, you'll have to go to my profile and look at the album I started on that.
Good to see you're making progress and great hearing from you.
    Take care
    Gary

All right folks The Panty Dropper is one step closer to being a rolling Chassis! Today at 1pm me and my bestfriend more like a brother Jon Fletcher better known as Fletcher62 on here Got the rear of the frame Z'd and pinched after almost 10 hours. At 11:30 pm sunday night we finished tacking the frame all together!Yes i said tacked cause all we had was a 110 flux core and we have a friend here that is a certified welder and has all the good 220 Equipment to finish weld the frame. So i leave you all with some new pics of the rear frame that we spent all afternoon and into the night on.Alos if you get the chance send Fletcher62 a message and tell him to quit lurking and make his introduction and start speaking his mind!!!

I wish i had 220 in the garage its gonna be the next thing i do!Right now all i have out there is 110 and it sucks cause if i had 220 i could get so much more done. I appreciate the offer we definitely need to get together theres still alot to do to the frame.I need to get the four link in place and tacked up and then get the boxing plates on it and fully welded so i can get the motor mounts and trans crossmember in and then get the engine and trans bloted in.Then maybe i can finish the engine.I've gotta get my cam and lifters and push rods and a set of rockers and get my other set of heads rebuilt cause they have a smaller cc chamber and i wanna get them on to bring up my compression then i need to find a couple good 390 or 450 holley carbs cause the two 650 are gonna be a bit much for that motor.I also have to get a stall converter and my hearders but i gotta get a job to do all this.I'm not exactly sure when my Fletcher62 is gonna be able to sneak away from his ol lady since we were all day together on my car and he didn't spend anytime with her so i'm not sure whats going on the rest of the week.

lol I can only imagaine. Well if you can't get your buddy over to finish weld, load her up on a trailer and we will finish the mock up in my garage. Im not building anything right now, just gathering parts for my A. I just sent my white 49 pickup on the Semi to MD so my garage is empty except the A and its frame, back wall huggers.

I have a edelbrock intake/carb setup if you are interested in coming down and checking it out. I don't want it as I'm planning on running 3x2 or something.

My wife is sick (someone has to care for the child) so I called into to work yesterday and today if you are bored I'll be home all night.

What really sucks is i'm this far in the game and still without A historical document for it so it can't even be registered so even if i do finish it i can't drive it legally.

what about filing for a bonded title? do you have the vin from the body? have you checked to make sure its not stolen? I have heard and seen some crazy things about people working on cars and then try and title it, to only find out later its stolen and reported over 30 years earlier.

Well folks a little more progress tonight!Unfortunately i won't have pictures till tomorrow or sunday possibly since i have a wedding to go to this weekend.Fletcher62 and i had a friend come by a local hotrod guy and helped us get the parallel 4 link on the car and tacked in.We are next shooting for getting the coil-overs mounted but it's looking like i am gonna have to order some shock tabs.Other than that we are really close to having a rolling Chassis by the end of next week.As soon as the coil-overs are tacked and mounted the frame goes for finish welding by the same local Hotrodder that helped us tonight. So when i get some pictures taken i will post them for all to see.I hope you are all enjoying this as i am completely and utterly feeling like a little kid on christmas day finally seeing my car coming together.

Alrighty ladies and germs i mean gentlemen here we go again......I finally got to get into the garage this afternoon and get my shock tabs made so Fletcher62 and I could get them tacked into place to hold the tops of the coilovers in place. So here are a few pictures of it as a rolling chassis. We rolled her outta the garage to show off and get some decent pictures of her.I am also realizing how much it is shaping up to look like it's East Coast style but thats fine with me cause she is turning out to be quite the lady but with plenty of attitude!!!!!!

Looking good dude!! Progress!!! If I may, those front wheels need to come back like a foot and the rear wheels need to be centered in the wheelwell (they may be already but not from this angle). I would press that engine right up against the fire wall and gain clearance for the radiator and grille shell that way. Proportion wise the car need to be squashed up a bit like a weesner painting as we were tlaking before. Keep looking at his stuff for inspiration and add a bit of east coast flavor to that. I took the liberty of a quick photoshop. I could not resist to chop the car about 2"....:D:D

You doing awesome thought dude and keep plugging away. Aren't you glad you did not sell this car?:D

maybe a lil narrower front axle. It looks really wide or is it just me?

I would be willing to let you try my stock A axle if you are interested. Just for some mock up.

That has to be a good feeling though!! rolling out of the garage on all 4!

    talk to you later killer.

JJ I like the look of your photoshop,The reason the front end is so long is because it is setup with a spring behind so it pushed it out aways which i really like the look of. As for the wheels they are centered its just that the wheel openings are so big it really makes it look like they aren't.The engine is just set on the frame with some 2x3 so we could get the front end at ride heighth abut it will definitely be going back farther like in your picture.I definitely wanna leave it unchopped though because i'm tired of going to all the shows and seeing so many chopped cars i wanna fight the norm!!!! I wanna stand out and this is one way i have found i can do that.

POPO the front axle is actually shorter than what it looks, its just the angle that the wife was Snappin pictures at.

I love the input fellas nothing wrong with givin me more ideas keep em comin.

  23. Damn brother.....LOOKING GOOD!
yah, the chop looks 'ok' but I know you...no chop, lots of channel, and i love ya for it (in a non gay way)
Keep at it, happy to see the progress pics.......and if you have a weekend you plan on busting ass and need someone to stand around and drink beer.....let me know your not that far away...i'll happily head down and lend a hand

I really like the way it sets long and not rediculusly low kinda gives it a dragster feel and look!!!! I can't wait to get the body work started and get the wood taken out and steel in and get a floor in it. It's next journey out of my garage to be taken to a buddy's house to be finish welded and frame boxed and engine and trans mounted.I am really unsure how to build a floor for it so i may take it somewhere and have that done along with having all the wood removed and replaced with steel. Then i'm gonna order my body parts and have all that repaired and get her in paint. If anyone is good with photoshop i wanna paint it a really heavy flaked Blue with a gold engine and a 3 stripe white scallop with a gold pinstripe around it from the cowl all the way to the back side of the doors!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.I wanna hev the engine moved back to the fire wall also in the pic and a set of sanderson zoomies or a set of headers like on Dave Lohrs Model a truck just don't want the car shortened any.

Hey slickster your car is coming along fine. And as for the flooring go back to the 29 chevy full sheet metal kit car thread. Or if you like I will post some flooring pics on your thread to consider. and again keep up the good work...ghost

Ghost i will have to check that out all though i'm not much of a fabricator myself i'm sure if i tried hard enough i could do it.I have a problem with confidence meaning most of the time i feel as though i can't do things on my own or am always unsure of myself in anything i do.

Yeah I understand. Every once in a while I get the same feelings whether I'm doing this or that right. But it's just a hot rod, and there's no set in stone rules on what's right, as long as it's safe. I have a couple of friends that are the same way. And once they get the tools in there hands they usually get it done and prolly better than most. As I said before it's looking good...ghost

you have the frame, so make the template out of 1" tubing, set up the outside perimeter and then build the middle with the same tubing. Once that is complete then you set the body to the channel height you want and then start making the connecting pieces from the base of the floor to the inside of the body!

I hope to come over and help with that part. If you need metal, come into Davenport, I have been going to the scrap yards, since the cost of metal is down they are selling for .20 a lb. they usually have a good amount of straight tubing

well let me know if you are coming over this weekend and what time.

Well everyone its time for an update. My frame is now almost complete. The engine and trans are mounted although i don't have any pics of the engine mounts welded in.The frame is now boxed the trans crossmember is in along with the motor mounts, the four link is finish welded, the coilovers are permanent, and after alot of consideration we decided to build a sort of x-member to strengthen the frame and keep it from flexing too much if i pour on the power!I also got rid of the Tunnel Ram and bought an Offenhauser 6x2 intake from Exeter Auto Supply. So far i have 4 Holley 94 Model 59's.I am in need of two more now if anyone wants to donate to the cause!LOL!!!I also added a new Moroso aluminum water pump tp help keep things cool. Here are some pictures of the frame and engine now without the body.
