No I made new sill plates and had the wood from 2 cars. I used the stuff that was solid and made some new parts. It's way more solid than I had imagine it would be. The progress has come to a very slow crawl. Too much work. I have a few little projects I would like to do sometime soon. Put 7" outers on the chevy rims for the rear. I found some 8" rims but they are to wide for the fenders. Also I would like to dissemble it and sandblast the frame and body and give it a coat of epoxy primer. Just need to find some time.
Some white spoke wheels have 12 5/8 centers. I searched the swap meets for a pair 7 in. wide and found a pair off a trailer. I am going to the same thing with a pair of 53 chevy wheels.
Looks great.....This thread brings back memories for me. I bought my 32 in 1972 and working on it between other projects finished it in 2009 so your making much faster progress than I did. Stay with it, they're great cars.
I got a shifter out of a 54ish chevy wagon with a powerglide. I was working on mounting it to the original 32 coullum. It was going well and looked like a small project that I would have some good success with, But when I went to take the shift linkage off the side of the 700r the shaft twisted off! SOB. When I put the Painless wiring kit in the ****** Ill replace the shaft. It just makes it it hard to mock up now.
Looking good. I got a soft spot for 32 Chevys. Did you ever find your fenders? They are still available as repoped steel, and there are gl*** ones. I have a good workable set also that might be available but they are being used a mock up currently
I haven't found rear fenders yet. If I can't find some decent ones I will probably buy some repop steel ones as it gets closer to needing them. Right now I'm doing low cost grunt work. Also I'm looking for a front splash apron for a 32. I do have front aprons for a 27 and one for a 31.
Here are extra parts from the 32. a pretty much rust free cowl and the part over the windshield not sure if someone wanted to make a 32
I did have some body and miscellaneous small parts but I put them on CVVA Chat and a guy from New York came and bought everything I had.You can put a want ad on VCCA Chat and you might be able to get what you need.I've had pretty good results there .Sign up for free at http://vcca.org/forum/
I like it, Im building a '32 chevy also but its a tudor sedan. The metal work is taking for ever to make it look right. Mine should have been s****ped but saved it instead. Been working on it, on and off, for over four years. Getting close though. I took the easy way out and replaced the wood with metal. I had the same plans originally with mine, I planned to fill the roof with exposed wood on the upper and lower. Its a great look, Good luck with it.
Not a coupe but an original family Confederate Standard sedan with a full pressure 216, T-5, open dive and Gear Vendors OD (3:43 final drive) and it runs good. Fun car. Good luck with you beauty. 27 MPG too! Normbc9
Hey PBR, I just saw your post. Last week I broke down and bought some reproduction steel fenders, but I do still need a taillight stand, p***enger side side hood. and a few misc pieces. I have made a little progress should post some pic soon.
Hey, just caught this build, very nice! You are really moving FAST! I'm doing a '32 Chevy myself, check out my build. I replaced all my wood with metal. It's not such a tough job, in fact, maybe a little easier than trying to fit wood back in. Keep posting, and more pictures!! Good luck.
It's been a while since I posted any progress. Here is a picture while it was at the exhaust shop. I had 2" duals with 24" gl*** packs. I have started it and it cackles. You can also see the drop blocks that I made. I reversed the eyes on the main spring. It is a S-10 rear.
Yea it's suposed to have a chevy. It's a $100 surban 5.7 with a bow tie marine intake. short water pump, small cap HEI. The radiator is for a 32 ford but fits great. It has a 700R4 with the painless kit.
Here is a picture coming home from the exhaust shop. as you can see I have blasted the body and covered it with epoxy primer. The wheels are 49 chevy, the rears have been widened with outers I bought off craigslist. I was thinking of painting it patriot blue, but I like the straw colored wheels with the black. plus I am crazy about red interiors. That probably would look better with a black exterior. At least to me. It was a good day. Driving the convertable followed by the coupe. By the way. Where are all the corvettes that are missing the engines? Did they crush them like the suburbans?
I like the Bias ply look. but the fronts are too tall. so they will get replaced. I want to put radial wide whites on it. I welded a quadrajet base in the bottom of the old 2bbl air cleaner.
Hey thanks, every thing is still loose but it's getting closer. The column shifter works, I made a drive shaft for it, lots of little things. I have repo steel rear fenders that aren't in the pictures.
