There is nothing inherently unreliable about any other post 1950 american engine other than poor maintenance. Get something different, or atleast if you think you NEED a common parts store motor go a 283, 327, or 289 all of them are fine choices, hell the car in my avatar is my ONLY daily and it has a L79 327 in it. Personally i'd suggest an early olds, early caddie, early hemi, ford FE, MEL, flathead, y-block or 283 in a vintage car for anyone that doesnt want to get into oddball motors

Me? I think 32's are in a separate catagory compared to most Hot Rods.
There are big money buyers with big expectations and the cash to back it up...and then there are poor guys with dreams and a beer budget.
Honestly...the big money isn't going to be super excited about that body ( Henry steel or Brookville is where the cash is, right or wrong) and you aren't gonna be super excited about the offers you will get from regular people like me.

Meeting the expectations for a "Traditional" 32 buildup will cost a lot of money.
Nothing exactly cheap about traditional, if truly done right and doing a 32 will bleed you dry anyway.
Death by a thousand cuts kinda stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I really think you have a great start for a cool build but I'm not sure it's investment level great thats all.
I'd love to have it...but then, for me it would be a keeper.

You guys make some good points, but lets be honest…Fake Fibergl*** roadsters sell everyday for $25K-$30K. The fact of the matter is, I have been flipping cars for a few years now to put money away for my kids future. Building them is where I get my enjoyment, but I cannot keep them because it has to be an investment for me. I cannot afford to lose.

Then a super simple ch***is layout with a SBC is the way to go.
Money saved there can go towards the visible detail stuff outside and inside the body. The engine detail stuff will also be much cheaper for the Chevy.
Clean and simple right thru is the way to go...but make it especially nice to look at. ;)

Thank you for your genuine response, I plan on going with the airplane style, bomber gauges, but traditional seat. Any suggestions on where to buy the frame from?

And get what for your labor? Zero? How much would you get paid out in industry if you could do the same skills as it takes to build a quality car?

By the time you figure your time and material, it's better to go buy one finished and tweek it a little, unless you're in love with a certain car.

  9. I look at that this way, I work on my own stuff because I don't like redoing someone else's work and because I enjoy doing it. Now if I am working on someone else's stuff that is an entirely different story. ;)

Get the proportions right, don't mix n match new and old, you're not in la-la land by a long shot. The vision and talent make the car, well any car, more than the sum of it's parts. Since we're talking about a Deuce roadster there's probably a scant 10,000 pictures you can view with a google image search to see what works and "looks" right vs the average craigslist Deuce roadster for sale. Go for it. Sounds like fun.

Looks like one of the links is off line.
I am going to forward a copy to Ryan to see if he can repost it

I've bought some of the parts you listed for 32's hood, grille shell you'll need the insert too. I think you're pricing is a little off or I got hurt real bad. As far as a motor be different a bit go with a 283/327 dependable as all hell Pretty much bullet proof, cheap to build, traditional and cool IMO
