Who can tell me what the 3/8" hole in the upper left side of a 32 Ford column drop was designed for? It is in ever 32 drop I have seen but never seen anything installed in it. Thanks
Choke cable for the 4 cyl engine. The V8 was in the dash and had a plug in that hole. It's still in your sport coupe isn't it?
Nope Tommy, The hole in the left side of the steering column mount is for the 4 cylinder starter pull cable. 4 cylinder choke cables were in the dash. If you have a column mount that has a cap plug in that hole it was off a V8 series vehicle that had a floor mount starter or a late series "B".
Further insane '32 trivia...The cable-pull starter switch was used on early LHD USA B's, all RHD cars. There are at least 2 different B starters (I always ***ume that all deuce parts vary infinitely even if I can do***ent only 2). Cable-pull cars had a 3-hole screw pattern where the A's had a 4-screw pattern to mount the switch and a protruding smooth contact like an A. Later LHD B's used the V-8 switch with foot pedal, had no screw holes on starter, and had a normal threaded contact for battery connection.
While we are at it, I make up new replacement starter pull cables but am running out of stock bezels so if anyone has some junk broken up starter pull cable bodies I'm in the market for some. DS
