Does anybody know where I can buy one of those smile bars that contour the bottom lip of a 1932 ford dash and ties the two sides of the car together? Thanks
A piece of 1/4" bar strap either 3/4 or 1" wide from the hardware store works good and plug and stitch weld it on easy to form. then a angle iron tab to mount it to the a pillars. Don't weld it on the side close to the dash it creates more of problem with the lower bead on the dash than its worth. in the area of the column drop you might need to make that area bigger depending on what drop you plan on using. but the strap make a nice thick area to drill into for mounting a switch panel or any thing else.
I'd make it myself, or ask Brookville if they sell them. Postage would most likely exceed the cost of buying steel at home. Bob
my 32 doesnt have one and im not really for sure if i have every seen one. anyone have a picture of one they made in use?
Here are a couple of pictures of how I did my under dash support. I used 1/4 x 3/4 cold rolled steel and bolted it to the cowl sides. When I installed the dash, I drilled and taped it and the dash, and used 12-24 pan head screws for fasteners that matched the fastners that attach the top of the dash to the cowl. The leading edge of the support are not attached to the A pillars.
