Does anyone know if the front doors from a '32 Fordor are the same as those on a 5W coupe? How about the upper door opening trim pieces (door "tins")?
I believe the only difference is in the top rear corner of the door. 5wd may be just a hair shorter in height. I know that the door lengths are the same. 5wd & Fordor door skins are the same animal. Garnish moldings should be damn-near the same. Why else would half the Fordor bodies in the country be missing their front doors? Everybody knows that Fordors are just parts cars. JH
Besides the rear being a little taller, the window tops actually have a little more arch than the coupe. If you use the 4dr window molding and above door tins, it'll all line up. I put a pair on one of my Dad's chopped 5w's. I cut the window opening at a 45 degree at the back top corner and split it there. This effectively took the extra height out. I had to weld in a pie shaped piece to fill the gap. Worked out well.
Just bought nice coupe upper door jam tins on E-Bay, kinda expensive, but if I don't find some for my 2 door the shop that's putting in my delivery door will stretch these to fit the 2 door. I also have a full set of 4 door upper tins. I've converted 4 door fronts to fit a coupe. Have a fairly nice set that would do the job in the shop now.
Krylon32: Do you have your Ebay Coupe tins already, or just bought them? (noticed a pair sold a couple of days ago). If so, or when you get them, could you post a photo of Coupe and Fordor tins side by side to show what and where the differences are? Likely a few others would also be interested in seeing as much as myself.
you could get more than a 3 window, a roadster or a pickup in 32? an itty bitty 4 door front door fits a coupe? -- model A carry over?
