Hey guys this may seem like a dumb question but when I initially picked up my used 32 front fenders they were missing the latches so I went on line and picked them up. When I looked them over they have an egg shaped piece that I assume goes inside the fender but I do not know what use it serves or which way it goes. I went back on line and saw a some what similar set but it does not have the egg shaped piece but does have rubber pieces that I would assume goes between the bracket and the fender to avoid hunting the paint. See last photo That seems to make more sense to me. Any thoughs Thanks Tom
Your hood hooks are aftermarket repro. The brackets for the hood are totally different. There is a rubber snubber that fits in the bracket to cushion the hooks and reduce vibration.
Merc’s set is the cheapo-Jeepo kind available everywhere. Real 32 kind will have the base as shown by Lover. It will help the latch fit up better to the hood. Some of the vendors even sell the Jeep kind as appropriate for a 32. You need to stay away from vendors like that.
yes, that's good advise from alchemy. Those two photos on your right are "jeeps" I would stay away from vendors who don't know the difference.
I happened to have a couple clear pics of an NOS 32 hood hook so you can see the way the foot is shaped. Disregard the top finger pull, it’s an early production model and is different than the common ones.
Here is the listing Ebay that looks like what he bought. https://www.ebay.com/itm/205241897351 Just a word of caution. Many sellers of Early Ford Parts ON EBAY don't have a clue and ID parts incorrectly.
Also need to consider that a lot of buyers don’t care. Close counts for many of them. That’s what makes the difference between a nice car and just a car.
The egg shaped pieces are to put on the backside to reinforce the metal and keep screws from pulling out over time. The convex surface goes towards the fender if you choose to use them.
