Yes, I remember when you brought "DORIS" to the LAR show at Great Western in the late 70's.

A bit light on right coast 1932 Fords some of which still have their original owners.

Great shot of Bobby Owens, to know him is to share his pride in participating at Pebble Beach. What a great honor and a well deserved award. And he's wearing his LA Roadster uniform.

Could someone post a photo of the Roadster with flames on the right? That is an old East Coast car that is in "Cool Cars, Square Rollbars" now painted as it was when it became a model for the Hot Wheels toy car.

  10. Bob @The37Kid -

As I posted in POST #2, the flamed roadster was indeed originally an East Coast car ... that made its way to California in the '60s, appeared in HRM in '64, and was the inspiration for the Hot Wheels "Deuce Roadster":

Here's Ted Wingate's Deuce Roadsters on the cover of the July 1964 issue of HOT ROD Magazine:

... and the feature article that appeared on page 62 thru 65 of the August 1964 issue of HOT ROD Magazine:

Thank you...;)...I am proud to be one as well...no shame in recognizing, respecting and sharing the history...

I'm sure the original builders would be honored that their former rides were appreciated as they were originally styled...

I'll even bet they'd understand any upgrades as in many ways owners of these rides appreciate and share similar visions in what resonates with them in Hotrod/Custom...

We are in fact very fortunate these type of buyers exist...

It sure looked like the clouds may have opened up there or is that just a fog that was yet to burn off?
Flat Tops Deuce had a color that wore many faces between blue and green...of course thats a bonus as it looks great in all of them...

The Red Deuce Roadster with the Taped Graphics reminds me of Bass's roadster...

Another observation of interest is the Wingate Roadster runs a heavy sectioned Grill/Shell that despite the Channel carries a look reminiscent of the Graffiti Coupe which is given a pretty bad rap for the shell versus body. I realize the AG Coupe wasn't channeled but when I look at that Roadster I am reminded of that critique...

It's 64 Cover look was money...

  15. Great selection of 32's. Always love seeing the pictures of hot rods at Pebble Beach. Cant wait for when they do customs again as a feature. Still a dream to get Taboo there someday.

Interesting that one of the panelists placed first with the Magee '32. Pacific Gun Site second and the event favorite Bob Owens third with his beautiful full fendered blue green '32 with the white top.

Just to keep the history correct; the Tom McMullen car was originally built by upholsterer Don Hudson and the Baskerville ‘32 was turned away from the L.A. Roadster’s Father’s Day show, not the GNRS.

Who owned and built the Baskerville Roadster before Gray made it famous?

  20. Jim - Checkout POST #22.

  21. His good friend Paul Horning owned the roadster before Gray.

Thanks for all the additional photos! I really like the fact that most of the cars were "Cover Cars" and they had enlarged cover in the background.
