Technical 1932 Ford pickup dimensional drawing

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by hb32, Oct 11, 2013.

  1. Searching the web for a dimensional drawing of a 32 pickup and all I can find is a Model A closed cab. Looking to compare the physical dimensions between the 2.

  2. Probably doesn't help you much but there is one on page A-5-8 of "The 1932 Ford Book" from The Early Ford V8 Club.

This is a photo of the page but lacks cab dimensions. HRP

Good thing too, I hope no one is doing any demolition work on 32 fords...

  6. Thanks HP.
Due to the seemingly lack of available Deuce pickups, and the similar 33`s or 4`s, I was thinking a AV8 30-31 pickup might be nice.
From what I have heard, the Model A was smaller cab wise and just wanted to do a comparison.
On the same note, knowing everything is doable, would a 32 firewall fit in place of a Model A`s?

Having had a 1930 Model A and now have a 1932 I believe I can say that the cab of the 30/31 Model A is a little smaller than the 32,,,

The Deuce firewall is probably bigger than the Model A,,but where there's a will there's a way. HRP

I have a Model A, and have driven a 32, and the 32 appears to be bigger, just like the roadster.

On the firewall there was a thread on doing that, the firewall was simply set back in to the cowl, didn't require trimming, and cleared the tank front. Very slick.

  9. If you need a little more room and are willing to settle for an open car I think Brookville (if not then someone else) makes a roadster pickup body with a slightly longer body.

  10. Thanks for the answers and still undecided. I have also heard of the firewall being cut out of a 33 cab and a 32 used in its place.

On my last two 32 pickups I used 33 cabs because on the outside they look alike and I liked the extra room provided by the 33 firewall. Put them both on my Cornhusker chassis and used stock 32 hoods and grille shells. The inside dimensions of the Brookville roadster PU are the same as a 32 roadster.

I'm a Deuce guy and I know of a couple of trucks done like this but if it were me I would sacrifice having the Deuce firewall for the few extra inches of interior room, but I'm 6' 4" tall. HRP

  13. I am not into major body mods but I wonder if you could cut the cab through the door area and use some longer doors out of a 2 door sedan? I don't have enough around to measure. You might just get lucky and have the moldings line up. I always envy you "big" guys but I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Well, the '32-34 truck cab has almost nothing in common with '32 passenger bodies... it was supplied as an****embly by Budd. Considerably wider than frame at the bottom where passenger bodies roll in, dash wider, cowl shorter...I seriously doubt that anythiong beyond the vent door could interchange. I think one of the design considerations was allowing 3 people to sit in the thing, not necessarily with comfort.

    This page: http://www.motormayhem.net/mode-a-ford-refrence-sheet/body-specifications/

Has dimensional drawings from Ford salesmen's spec books...both types of '30 pickups are in there.

Plus, they had a choice...accept the 3 or 4 wide ride outta Hooverville to shovel***** for 5 cents an hour, or stay home under an old newspaper and look for a good cricket or acorn for supper...

Just stretch the cab about 1 1/4" and flush fit the doors. Then put the seat back against the cab and don't use much padding. An 1 1/4'' in those small trucks is a huge difference. As for the mesurements the cab is the same length from fire wall to back of cab as a 28'-29' closed cab.

  18. Are they any similarities in the late 31`s Bud cab steel roof wide bed trucks and the 32-33 cabs, size wise ?

Both chassis were really too damn short to be pickups, so Ford scrunched the driver into space of minimum length...otherwise very different. The '30-31 was almost like passenger car in dimensions, similar to the front half of a tudor and with many pieces interchangebale with A cars. The '32 was an entirely different body, much wider near bottom, shortened cowl, nothing important interchangeable with passenger tin despite the visual similarities. I think both were supplied by Budd.
